July 1

The July Deer Story...

About 8 this morning, we saw this mama on the crest, over by the corner where the dogwood tree is.

She jumped the fence over onto Dan's and came down the fence line to the brush in the ditch below the pond.

Then, about 15 minutes or so later, we saw here in our pasture eating cherries off the ground.

We watched her for another 15 minutes or more and then suddenly she alerted and took off running.

We could not see what might have startled her, but she was soon out of sight down the hillside.

Then, a few minutes later, we saw another mama on the crest, the same place we first saw the other one.

Second mama jumped the fence in the same place over onto Dan's.  This is where the always cross.  I guess because there is a small clearing in the brush on the fence here.

A few minutes later, we see her on our side of the fence going down to the salt block.

She goes to get salt.  George and I both saw fathom antlers on this deer, but my camera saw a doe with no antlers.

But keeps looking back up the hill toward the brush in the corner.

She goes down the hill toward the ditch and disappears in the ditch, but we suspect she crossed over into the brush in the ditch on Dan's side.

About 15 minutes later, I saw two deer running across the clearing on Dan's out of the ditch and up over the crest of the hill.   We think it is likely both mamas had babies hid in the brush in the ditch over by the Dogwood tree, maybe on Dan's side of the fence.  That is my story and I am sticking to it.
