Flowers

Flowers on my deck.  Helen, Robert, and Dick Newberry donated planters.  Helen's stone bowl on end, Dick's cup and Robert's shoe.

Close up.  I bought the flowers from the Germans up the road.

Around the steps.

Happy Father's Day

I bought George a nice little window air conditioner for his bedroom for Father's day.  We have a big window unit in the living room, but it does not chill the bedroom very well at night after it gets really into summer and does not cool down at night outside.  It really has not been as hot the last 2 or 3 days, but we enjoyed the cool room just the same.

My garden is doing great.  I got one squash already and will have more in a few days.  My potatoes plants are already dying.  They never did really bloom but I have lots of potatoes.

Two days off and then on to next week's big audit at work.  I am actually glad it is coming early this year.  Last year it was August so we dreaded it all summer.  This year, we did not even know she was coming until last week.  Get it over with early in the year works for me.

I am enjoying my new pretty floor, but I am having to get back in the habit of cleaning it every day.  It really shows dirt,  but is easy to clean.

What's this?

I have saw these birds yesterday on Jerry Norris' pond at the top of Meek Hill.  There is about 6 of them.  They are about a foot tall when they stretch out their necks.  I think they are young birds and not adults.  I have never seen anything like this around here.  Today, when I saw them again, I drove back with my camera for pictures.  What kind of birds are they?

Summer is surely here

Hot and dry.  It is 90 degrees in the shade at 6:30. Perfect tomato weather.  I got wire cages around the tomatoes yesterday and today I watered them for the first time this year.  The tomatoes look good, but my corn came up spotty and does not look very good.  Some of it is 3 inches short and some is a foot tall.  The potatoes are really good.

I have several half dollar size tomatoes on my early girl plants.  I thought the early girls did good last year.  They were the first and last to produce and they taste really good.  The tomatoes are not large, but being first makes up for a lot of things.

I have several baby squash.
