Truth in Lying

Quick, Quick, who was playing against Rutgers when Imus insulted them? Anyone know? Not me. I am thinking it might be Kentucky, but I don't remember ever hearing who they were playing. I bet not one in a thousand could answer this question today, yet thousands would now recognize the Rutgers Girls on any street.

Now, I don’t think people should say nasty things about other people to get a laugh. I especially don’t think powerful loud mouth celebrities should say nasty things about average Joes, or Janes in this case. But, the Rutgers Girls, and others, are saying that Imus took away their moment of Glory with his hateful words.

The truth is, very few people would even know that Rutgers had a women’s basketball team if it were not for Imus. He did not take away anything. He provided the team and coach their 10 minutes of fame and national recognition that they could not have known even if they had won the game against their unknown foe. The fact that you and I do not know the name of their foe, the national women’s basketball champions??, proves this point. And he paid with his job. Who’s laughing now?

And, while I am on the soap box, how can a person I do not know, and do not like, hurt me by calling me nasty names? Nasty names from our loved ones hurt. Nasty names from strangers should not matter. I do not care what Imus or any other stranger thinks of me or what names they call me. And, further more, they cannot make me care. In reality, most of the time, I do not even care what my loved ones think of me let alone caring about the opinions of a world of strangers. What really matters is what you think of yourself. I wonder if the Rutgers women really cared about Imus and what he said, or just thought they were supposed to care.

Here are my words to live by, for Imus and all. Try to live your life so that when asked, 'Did you do that?', you can hold your head high and say, 'Yes, I did that.' If you would be ashamed to admit to the deed, take the high road, and don't.

Leaky Spring

This is what our hills look like to night. A couple of weeks ago we had a beautiful Spring going with temperatures in the 60's and 70's and everything blooming. Then this last week we had several nights with below freezing temperatures and 2 nights with a hard freeze. Today was rainy and cool. Then tonight we got some hail and a lot of steady, cold, winter like rain. I guess we are in for another week of below normal temperatures.

This will be the second year in a row that Aday Fields have been wiped out in the spring. Last year on April 24th we got a terrible hail storm that knocked all the blooms off the fruit trees and ruined many of the flowers. This year the freeze got to the fruit tree blooms. I am going to miss the mocking birds getting drunk on the wild cherries that ferment on the limb for the second year.

I am already tired of this Leaky Spring.
