For Sisters

This post is especially for sister 1 and 4.

Sister 1 searched and found on the net that sisters and cousin Winnie are not in danger of going to jail for taking pictures of their ballots Tuesday. After I read her comments, I did the same search and found she was correct. I never take her word for anything. She is as old as McCain and you know how he gets things confused. I found with the search that it is a very common misconception that taking a photo of your ballot is illegal. Wonder how that got started. Well, anyway, it may be illegal pretty soon. You see, in the past politicians paid good money for votes but had no way of ensuring that they got their money's worth because of the secret ballot. Now, politicians in third world countries are requiring voters to take a cell phone photo of their ballot prior to paying out good money for the vote. Maybe Patsy will get a cell phone and sell her vote to McCain.

Sister 4 is trying to be nice, but as I have said many, many times lately being nice is really, really hard when it goes completely against your nature.

You see we have this really nice lady that works in our department with me. She really, really gets on my nerves, as do most nice people. It is not that she does anything bad, or really anything that would bother most normal people, but the sister is not normal. The nice lady irritates me to no end. So, I made it my goal to be nice. I have not been successfully fulfilling this goal lately, so Monday and Tuesday I make myself a name tag that said BE NICE! to help me remember to BE NICE. These signs did not have much effect on my behavior. My level of niceness hovered somewhere between zero and one. Our company has this thing they call smart goals. I cannot remember all the rules for smart goals but 1 is that they be measurable and another is that they be achievable. Well, this goal was certainly measurable because many people were noticing and reminding me when I fell short (not many people knew exactly why I was supposed to be nice, but the sign told the story and I was supposed to be nice to everyone, not just a certain one.) Tuesday morning after my mouth got the best of me once again, I publicly ripped the be nice sign and threw it in the trash while many were watching. I explained to those watching that goal did not meet the definition of smart goals because it was absolutely not achievable.

Moral of this story for me and Helen. Do not beat your head against a brick wall.

Anyone want to contriubute to a fund to get cousin Winnie out of jail??

Winnie says she is going down to the Polling Place with her Hillary sign. I had always understood it was against the law to campaign within a certain distance of a polling place, but then thought maybe Bush had changed that too, or at least made it so only Republican signs were allowed. Guess not. I found this online

http://www.senate.state.mo.us/05info/pdf-bill/intro/sb389.pdf

SENATE BILL NO. 389
93RD GENERAL ASSEMBLY

AN ACT
To repeal sections 115.635 and 115.637, RSMo, and to enact in lieu thereof two new sections
relating to election offenses of the third and fourth classes, with penalty provisions.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, as follows:
Section A. Sections 115.635 and 115.637, RSMo, are repealed and two new sections
enacted in lieu thereof, to be known as sections 115.635 and 115.637, to read as follows:…

(18) Exit polling, surveying, sampling, electioneering, distributing election literature,
posting signs or placing vehicles bearing signs with respect to any candidate or question to
be voted on at an election on election day inside the building in which a polling place is
located or within twenty-five feet of the building's outer door closest to the polling place, or,
on the part of any person, refusing to remove or permit removal from property owned or
controlled by [him] the person, any such election sign or literature located within such
distance on such day after request for removal by any person;

I hope Winnie stayed the requested 25 feet from the poll doors. If not, Mike can give us a call and we will send our donations his way.

I guess, just to be safe, since Winnie might not know me as well as my sisters do, I better make it clear I am just joking here. Well, joking about her being in jail. There really are laws, I think in all states, prohibiting electioneering within a certain distance of a polling place. The distance differs from place to place, but the basics are the same.

It is my understanding that these laws were enacted to prevent intimation of the voter at the polls. In today's world it is unlikey a voter would be intimated by a politician at the polls, but, in earlier times, many local politicians carried considerable leverage if they wanted to try to make a voter cast their vote a certain way. In fact, it was not that long ago that the two front running Democartic candidates in this race would not even been allowed to vote in any election in the US.

Rain

It has really been raining here for the last hour or so. It had pretty much quit, so I started down to the road to take a picture and it started up again. Do you know how you take a picture in the rain without getting your expensive camera wet? You put the camera under your t-shirt, and when you get ready to take the picture, your raise your t-shirt, holding it over the camera like an umbrella and point and shoot. Worked...

I went to vote today cause I thought George would go and Cheryl would ask, 'where is Fleta' like Fairy Sue did last year. But, after I got home, George said he was feeling bad again and was not going.

Winnie should be proud. I voted for Hillary. Let's just hope she wins.

Is Patsy in here? I don't see her. Maybe Richard, bottom extreme right.

This is how Vineta, Joy and whoever else helped her indentified the people.

The girl...

You have to be quick to get a picture of two, cause one is always on the move...

Raindrops falling on my head

Look, a car wash...

This is great fun...

If you stick your head under here, you can take a shower....

Look, a day at Grandma's house.
