This

is our Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mtdna (roughly translated as maternal, or mother), so it is mother, of mother, of mother on and on.

Up to Eunice Beard, I have in our Powell database. The mothers before that, I found with rootsweb searches.

The reason I looked at this, is Betty is thinking about having our mtDNA tested. Clayton would not have to scrap again. They have the sample, Betty would just have them run more tests. And, she would pay for them. I think it is a great idea. But, anyway, I was trying to get it clear in my head what we had on mother of our mother of our mother... I did not realize until I did this, that we had so many more generations on Mama. On Daddy we are the 9the generation from Charles Powell. On Mama, we are 13 generations from Esther Ruth. I think Esther Ruth is a great name.

Oh, and this is just me and Helen. Patsy and Betty come down through the Palin line.

BREAKING NEWS!!! Powell DNA results confirm 3 sister's genealogy research

YES, Patsy and Betty, that is what our results say.

We have been following our family history through a paper trail for over 20 years now. AND... we have found that our Powell family came to Virginia in the early 1600's. We are pretty sure he came from England, and think it is likely he came from the London slums. But, maybe it was his father or grandfather that came over, but I think it was likely him as we have NOT been able to find a paper connection between Charles and any of the Powell's already here. We have traced the line down to us and have a good paper trail on many, many of the male lines of descent down to the present or at least to around 1900. I did not find that any of these other lines we have traced from our Charles were tested in the Powell DNA project. So, when we looked at our paper trail, we did not connect Charles to any of the Powell's that were tested in the DNA project as far as we know. Therefore, when our DNA did not give an exact match to any of the other Powell's in the project, the DNA results matched what we had already established with our paper trail. No matches in America.

Also, our paper trail leads me to believe we could be related somehow to some of the other Powell families already here, but I can not tell exactly if that is so. Our DNA, I think points to a relationship to some of these other Powell families in the DNA project, but we cannot tell exactly how we are related.

I copied the Powell DNA numbers from the Website into an Excel file and sorted it by numbers. Of the Powell DNA numbers that start 13-23 for the first two numbers only 2, yes 2, NC-17 and ENG-6 are exact 25 marker matches. And, not one, again not one, of the 12 that start 13-23 are exact 37 marker matches.

There are some 37 marker exact matches within the Powell DNA numbers, but not one exact 37 marker match within any of the 12 that start out with the numbers that start like ours.

AND, about the Whalebone thingy. Our Charles Powell born in 1740, listed on the Overwharton Parish Register as a son of Charles Powell and Elizabeth, was NOT the last child born to this couple. Three weeks before Charles died on April 30, 1744 Elizabeth had a daughter named Peggy Powell.

And lastly, I think there is a good possiblity that Patsy and Betty are closely related to Sarah Palin.

And NOW, I went back to the Family Tree DNA web page and looked at what Betty says are matches between our DNA and people with surnames other than Powell. They do say we have exact 12 marker matches with some of those tested. It also says of all the thousounds (136,937) of DNA tests not one is a perfect match to us on the 25 marker test, and for those who tested 37 markers, the closest match is a 4 step match. That is matching 33 of the 37.

That is why Betty and Patsy are related to Sarah Palin. They are American exceptionists.

37 MARKER!!

Family Tree DNA said we had no 25 or 37 marker matches in their database. If you click on the image it will be large and easier to read, but here is what we got for 13 thru 37. The first 12 or on the Powell DNA website.

17-9-9-11-11- 25-15-19-30-15-15-17-18-10-11-19-22-15-12-16-17-38-40-12-12

I have not had time to study it yet. There are some on the Powell site that are not too far off, but I don't know if that means much.

Here is my version of our numbers with some from the Powell site that are close, but no matches. This is only R1b1b2 numbers because I don't think we need to consider any others. Click on the photo for a larger version.

Gotta Go! NOW!`

I stole this from someone on the net. I like it.

Patsy posted about McCain going missing immediately after the debate last night while The O and his wife stayed around and worked the crowd. Patsy thought it was because the M is old and needed to go to sleep. I think it is more that he just had to GO!! I am closer to his age than the O's and after two hours of drinking water because of a nervously dry mouth, I can tell you that I would HAVE to GO... PEE that is.

Betty and Helen have posted their regrets. I have one big regret right now. It is that the mouse on my computer is malfunctioning and I do not seem to be able to find a fix. I changed to a different mouse and it has the exact same problem. The right button does not work right and keeps doing things its own way instead of my way. I am like the M, I want everything MY way.

Then my other news is the DNA thing I read today. It seems that science is about to the point that they can use DNA to pinpoint the male surname in crime cases, especially if the surname is unusual. It seems there is not that much difference in the DNA for males with the same unusual surname. I guess we do not have to worry too much about that with Clayton's DNA. Three of us know full well that Powell is NOT unusual, and Charles Powell is so common in the 1700's that we need a good DNA match to see which Powell creek we floated down to Kentucky on.
