What is this?

This is a piece of farm equipment at the museum. What do you think it is? The purpose would be obvious to any Ozark farmer, after learning the name of this thing, but just by looking at it, I was at a loss. So, take a guess???
OK, if you want to know what this is, here is a link to an article written about the inventer, E J Smith, by a descendant, and, if you want to buy one, he sold them for $14.95.

Old Farm Machinery

Nothing to see or do in Beatrice

The kids said there was nothing to see or do in Beatrice, Nebraska. They have different interests than I do. By reading the local paper, which btw is something I like to do where ever we visit, I found that 4 miles from Beatrice is the site of The National Homestead Momument of America

This is the site where a man named Freeman (appropreiate name?) filed one of the first homestead claims on the 1862 Homestead Act. They have a 1862 log cabin and lots of old farm equipment. Plus over 100 acres of land. If we come back in the summer, I am going to go see the prairie in bloom.

Mud, Mud and more mud

Wages paid for building tanks are pretty good, but working conditions are less than good, as in ugly bad. Last month, when the temperature ranged from a low of around 10 degrees up to maybe 32 degees during the day, they were out here most days, putting up tanks. Now, it is much warmer, around 60 degrees this day, but the mud is over 2 feet deep in places.

The white truck is one BMT (the tank co) is giving away to one lucky employee in a drawing. The more days you work, the more times your name is entered. Still, Saturday, Greg had 10 of 21 show up for work. Sounds like Tyson on a Saturday.

The Tanker Man

His tank is # 4, right in front in the overview picture. It blew in a week after he took over, but is back up and and almost finished. All together they are building about 10 tanks here. It is going to be a biodiesel refinery, www.beatricebiodiesel.com... A big waste of our government $$ in the big engery lie.

Grandma and Babies

Robert is a busy man. He doesn't have time to pose for portraits.
