Skinning the cat, and Truman's letter

This is the only thing I have, as far as I remember, which is not very far, that Truman wrote to his father.  Click on the image and you can see it much larger.  Truman's part says, Papa will you make Mama let us go opossum hunting with Priced Jones.
Truman
Mama said to wait till you come home to go with us.

The bottom part is from Daddy and it is upside down from Truman's part.
Daddy said,' Dear Papa, would like to see you.' Then something about a rabbit that I cannot make out.

This letter and a few more pages are here at our Powell family site:

There are some more photos here:

And skinning the cat.  I do not have a bookmark for my Powell site on this laptop.  I go to Patsy's blog and scroll down for the link that says Powell and that is our family history website.  I have so much up there that I have to just go hunt for things like these letters.  I knew I had them at the site, but not really where they were.

This is Grandma Powell's cookbook.
It has recipes from Thelma, Loveta, Fleta, Winnie and Frances.  It has a recipe from our Mama, but we all know this is not our Mama's recipe.  It is Grandma Powell's recipe.  There is even a picture of Mama, one of Frances and one of Thelma.  I think I gave the actual cookbook to Laura Jean.  I don't know where the actual letters are.  I don't know if I have any of them or not, but I don't much think I do.

And another cat.  I lost the little thing that I use to transfer photos from my camera to my laptop.  I know it is here somewhere, but do not know where.   I am mad at myself for losing it.  I went to Patsy's and got the one I gave her that she could not use.  It did not work. The power light would not come on for it.  So, I found the cord to my camera and just connected the camera directly to the laptop. It worked fine that way.  Maybe I can keep up with the cord.

George is trying to skin the cat of installing the microwave / stove hood.  It is slow going.  Stay tuned.

It's Friday

And I am on Vacation, so I decided to go for a walk.  I wanted to walk up on the Rock Quarry and see if there were any deer up there.  Wednesday morning about 7 am, George heard 5 gun shots coming from the Marr boy's direction.  We were afraid he might have shot one or more than one of our deer.  I was just hoping the mama and twins and the other mama and her one baby were all still here.  In the last two days I have seen all these, but we have not seen any bucks since the day of the six at the salt block.  At first all I saw was stuff like above.

I went up to David's pond, right on top of the hill above my house.  This spring it was really swampy up there and you could not get within 100 yards of the bank without boots, but all the mud around it has dried up now.  It is a beautiful spot.  At first, I did not see anything except bull frogs.

Then, I heard a scratching sound and saw these two squirrels playing chase on an old dead tree by the water.

And on down by the water.

Round and round they went, enjoying the wonderful fall day.

Then, out of the woods came our Mama and the Twins.

Mama takes a drink.

And then the babies.

If you click on this one to enlarge it, you can see the squirrel tail in the tree above the fawn on the left.  The squirrels are still chasing each other in the trees and the fawns are watching.

I watched and snapped pictures for a few minutes.  Then, I don't know if they saw me, or if the squirrels spooked them...

But all of a sudden, it was tails in the air and they were gone.

And, I made it back to the house just fine.

Library help for Betty

If you have a library card for the Pope County Library System and a password to sign in at their website, you can get free ebooks to read on your computer.

You go to the library website, no need to login at first.  Click on their Library 2 go logo, then click on the quick start guide

OR just go here, because that is where it will take you.

http://lib2go.lib.overdrive.com/FD704379-B47A-4C65-BC9B-E8A32112A135/10/673/en/Help-QuickStartGuide.htm

You will need to download the Adobe Digital Editions

BUT, you will need an Adobe ID so you have to register with Adobe [this is all free including the two programs you have to download]

Go here
https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/membership/index.cfm?nf=1&loc=en_us&nl=1
click on Create an account, you only need to fill in the things with red stars by them.  Your email address will be your Adobe user ID and you can pick a password.  Write down which email address you register with and your password because you will need it to install the Adobe program.  After you get your ID and password go here:

To download Adobe eBooks on your computer, you need Adobe® Digital Editions.
To download and install Adobe Digital Editions, click here.

download and install this program

The go here
To download and install OverDrive Media Console, click here.

and download the program the library uses for the ebooks.

This is for the Arkansas Library system, not just Pope county or Carroll County.

After you install these two programs go here again

Scroll down and look for the Orange ad on the LEFT side of the page about half way down that says
Advantage library patrons sign in to see available content.

You click on the sign in link and you get a drop down list to choose your library. That is Pope County, you know.  You sign in with your library barcode and your library password.

The books that say Add to Cart are available for download.  Others will say place a hold or add to wish list. These are putting your name on a list for when they become available.  I guess it is like real books in that they can only loan out a limited number of each book.  The help site says if you put one on hold or on your list, they will email you when it becomes available and you have, I think, three days to download it.

After you download one, it opens in Adobe Digital Editions.  When you want to read more, you open Adobe and it is there, if you only have one book. If you have more than one, you have to do like Patsy and figure out how to go from one book to another. She did it so surely you can.  It keeps your place for you and opens the book back to where you were when you closed the book. Just like a real bookmark.

If you want to do this Saturday, I should be home and you can call the help line here.

Governor Perry

Call home.  Your state is on fire.

Helen

We got the package today.  The clothes are really nice.  Robert will love the cars.

Tuesday, September 6 Kitchen Report

All of these are complete except the one between the stove and fridge is not attached.  The one above the fridge is just sitting on the fridge and there is a spacer that goes between the sink base and the corner cabinet.

That is my old sink just sitting on the sink base.  He has to get everything complete so we can measure for the counter top.  I am not sure what color counter top I will get.  I am getting a new sink and faucet also.  The island is not connected yet, and you can see the space where the spacers go.  I am going to have so much more space and they are really pretty.  They go really well with the floor.

This is the bonus cabinet.  It is sitting across the room in next to where the dinning table goes.  I am going to get a new, smaller table.

We have a microwave, stove hood combination, but it was damaged. They are bringing another one tomorrow.

I have put some of my things in the cabinets, but not in the lower cabinets because they are not completed yet.     So far, I am very please with the carpenter doing all the work.  We are both surprised that it is going so well.

Moral of the story?

Gov of Texas prayed for rain.  God sent rain, to Louisiana, winds to Texas to fan the flames.

Be careful what you pray for.

Holiday

George has all the upper cabinets except the one above the fridge.  It is 3 inches shorter than the space.  Jr the carpenter wants me to take it back and buy a custom cabinet for that space.  I do not think that is a worthy use of money since the cabinets above the fridge are too high up to be of any real use.  The cabinets are going in faster than I expected.  The corner cabinet was not in to suit George, so yesterday I finally told him why not just take it out and start over.  He did and the second time he liked it much better.  They look beautiful.

They look so good that I have decided we are going to put in a nice backsplash behind them.  Maybe tile, but we will do all the rest first.

Monday, George will start on the floor cabinets.

Today, we are going to go to tourist city and ride the train for Roberts birthday.  He will be six next week.  He loves trains and trucks.  I think he is going to be really, really excited to ride a real train.  We took him to the zoo last year and he rode a little train for about 10 minutes and thought he was in heaven.
