For the birds, again

Oh, I forgot, I called Betty.  She says her internet is down. She will post pictures of her completed face lift when the net comes back on.  And the name of the post, when I went to post, For the birds, it came up as the name of a previous post.  Who knows when.  We have been at this bloggy thingy since 2006, 5 years now.  I know most people have dropped blogs in favor of facebook, but I like our blogs because it is like a daily journal   (sometimes more like weekly for some of us).  Just last week, I looked back at last year's blog posts to see when I planted potatoes. And, I looked back to see when we got the 6 inches of hail in April.  I think it was 2006, but not sure because my posts are just about all the rain.  Remember when we got all the hail and it was piled up 6 inches deep in the yard?  What year was that?  I know it was April.

This is one of the two bird bath / water fountains we bought in April of last year.  I took them up before winter and stored them in George's shop.  I took them out yesterday and set them back up.  I really love this one and the birds do too once the weather dries up.  For now they have water everywhere so they have not found this yet.

This is the other one.  I do not like it as well as the first one for some ascetic reason.  Last year, about June or July it quit working.  The bird would not spit.  This year when I hooked it up it started working.  I think the little pump gets hot because it ran all day and then about 4 or 5 yesterday it quit.  This morning it is working again.  The other one we could buy a new pump and just hook it up.  This one, the pump cord runs through the base and is a part of the base.  If we take it apart, we would have to fix it somehow to make it hold water again.  I am thinking if it quits pumping, I will do like last year and just put water in it and use it as a static birdbath without a spitting bird.

I really do enjoy both of these much more than I ever thought I would.  When it gets hot and dry, the birds flock to them.

My garden is looking good.  Good and soggy.  We need sunshine.  I have a few seedings coming up volunteer from last years plants.  The marigolds I planted in the garden last week have not started coming up yet.  Yesterday we went all the way to Branson looking for flower plants.  I did not find what I want.  I bought one $2 sweet potato vine.  I think in a couple of weeks we will go to the big garden center at Hindsville.  I am just buying plants for the flower bed around the deck and the pots I have by the steps this year.  Everywhere else, I am going to use whatever comes up from all the seeds I saved.  I have planted some of them, but still have I think 2 coffee cans full of saved flower seeds.  I will plant them in the garden when it dries out a little then transplant them where I want them.

Today, I am going to stay in out of the liquid sunshine and work on the file for our Carroll County website on the Leathers cemetery.  I am putting up pictures of all the stones and a little history of each person.  There are only a total of 15 marked stones in the cemetery from 5 families.  When I get it up, I will put up a link so Helen can see my great works.

I still need to get the seeds you gave me out from under the spare bed in the spare bedroom and plant them. I sure hope some of them come up.
