This is Daddy's Bible and a modern paperback that I have. The ESV is one Greg got somewhere.
Genesis 9.1 from the ESV Bible says the same thing as the Scofield King James Version.
This does not say Canaan will be a slave, but does say he and his descendants will be servants...
Genesis 9:25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. Scofield's note says A prophetic declaration is made that from Ham will descend an inferior and servile posterity (Gen. 9. 24, 25)
If you want to study the Bible, a reference, study Bible is a big help.

Most black preachers don't like the Scofield Bible. Inferior? I read about Cyrus Scofield...very interesting fellow. Fought for the confederacy. Deserted his wife and 2 kids. I just read awhile but he is a interesting cat! The stuff in his Bible was supposed to be from Dailey or Daily in England. I forget his first name. I have a Thomas Nelson Study Bible and I have Matthew Henry's Commentary. The rapture of the Church was not taught until after Dailey/Daily.
SCHOFIELD WAS A zIONEST IN THE SENCE HE BELIEVED THAT ISERAL MUST BE A NATION AND THEN THE CHURCH WOULD BE RAPATURED, THIS TEACHING CAME FROM SCHOFIELD BUT I WONDER HOW MUCH THE PALISTINE QUESTION HAS HAD IN FRAMING SCHOFIELD AS A BAD FELLOW. I READ THE SAME STUFF YOU DID ABOUT SCHOFIELD LEAVING HIS WIFE AND ALL THAT.

SO SOME SAID CANAAN WAS BLACK BECAUSE HE WAS IN AFRICA FOR GENERATIONS, THEY ARE TYING THE CANAANITE AND PEOPLE OF AFRICA TO BLACK SKIN SO THE SLAVES IN U S OF AMERICA WERE OF AFRICAN BLOOD AND THEY USED THIS AS GOD WANTED THE BLACKS TO BE SLAVES
SCHOFIELD SAID CANAANITS WERE OF A INFERIOR RACE NO DOUBT THE BLACK PRECHERS OBJECT TO BEING CALLED INFERIOR RACE BY SCHFIELD.
THE WORD SLAVE AND SERVENT MEAN THE SAME THING AND ARE INTERCHANGEABLE.
