Hummers

Betty said she did not see any 'ruby' throat on her humming birds, so I was going to take pictures to show the difference between the male and female hummers.  I watched for about 30 minutes tonight and all I saw were females.  Just last month they were mostly males with a few females.  I could not find a male hummer pic on my laptop, so I stole some from google.  The white throats are females and the red are males.  When the sun shines on them the shimmer like incandescent lights. The pic in the middle is mine.  I put up my second feeder yesterday because they were fighting so much over the one that they were not getting to eat very much.

We see deer about every day.  Today, Clayton and George saw the doe with the twin fawns at the pond and tonight George saw 3 bucks cross the hill side on Dan's going to water.  I saw Dan out on his 4 wheeler today without an escort, so he must be doing better.  I don't think he is back driving yet though.

George's sister in Durango said she had two young deer eating her bird seeds off the ground under her feeders this morning.  She said the one doe had sunflower seeds all over the end of her nose.  They had 10 bucks in their yard.  The deer eat everything in their yard.  She had to put deer fence around her apple trees to get any apples.  She likes the deer about like Betty.

Aunt Bobbie Rohde is back home over by Carrollton.  Her grandson said she had good days and not so good days.  When we went to see her in the hospital, George asked how she was doing.  She said,  'I am getting there.  It is getting better and better.'

I only have females as they are like the green ones. I have dogs on zip lines to keep the deer out of my Meadow. they are about the same as huge rats. Think of a rat that big and there you have it a deer!
