Only in a small town

I started to tell Helen this story when she was here but I got off track and did not get it finished. It sounds like one of her stories.

My friend Barbara lives a few houses from the Alpena cemetery where many of our family are buried. Barbara has family buried there also and takes an active interest in the condition of the cemetery. One day last year, she came to work telling that someone had left 3 dogs at the cemetery. She was not at all pleased. I did not quite understand why she was so angry about the dogs. People dump dogs off on the back roads around here all the time. I would have been glad they left the dogs by the cemetery instead of at my door.

Well, it seems I did not exactly hear all the story at the time. Yes, there were three dogs 'left' at the cemetery, but not dumped as I had understood the situation. No, three dogs, a large dog house, three feeding bowls and watering containers were placed inside the fenced in cemetery grounds to live. Whoever placed the dogs came each day to leave food and water in the containers. Barbara was not pleased. She voiced her displeasure during a visit to the post office to pick up her mail. Apparently, the post mistress knew who was using the cemetery as a dog pound. The next day dogs, dog house and all the dog paraphernalia had been moved to a different home.

Fleta, thanks for the tip. Larry and I are thinking of trying this instead of building more kennels.
