And that is the way it is, May 26, 2010

Since I have not exactly been posting in a timely manner, I took some pictures today just for the blog. I have taken hundreds of photos in the last month, many intended for blogging, but most remain unblogged. This is Daddy's plow with my herb garden. Last year I planted many herbs here, but only the lemon balm, oregano, Patsy's winter onions, calender or whatever (the Mexican thingy), and someone unknown 6 inch sprout came back this year. That is mostly because I let the marigolds and cosmos overtake it all. This year I am going to control the flowers and try to have more herbs. I have basil and purple basil, more of the Mexican thingy, garlic and 3 kinds of mint. I planted dill in the garden and Clayton's sage by the house, and a few chives in a pot. I like to grow herbs, but last year I did not harvest any. This year I am going to harvest.

This is the parking place George made from creek gravel at the end of the trailer. You can't see it very well here, but the gravel is over 1 foot thick on the lower side, making a nice, solid, level parking place.

This is the lilac in the middle of the yard. I cut it back so Patsy's pink rose (on the left) could get some sun. I put chicken wire around the rose to keep out the rabbits. We had over a dozen rabbits calling our yard home since we have no dog to chase them. George has shot a couple and shot at a few more and they have taken to the woods. They were cute till they started eating my flowers.

This is the bird bath at the corner of the gravel area by the parking area. The two tubs contain the lavender I bought thinking to plant it in my herb garden, only to find this variety is not cold hardy. Maybe I will bring it in this winter. Or, maybe not.

These are cuttings from Clayton's roses. I had such good luck with Patsy's rose last year, I decided to try for more. I also have three cuttings from my knockout roses on up the line.

This is Patsy's pink rose by the house, the stolen bleeding heart that has taken root and the moon flower seedlings. In the early 1980's, Aunt Thelma gave me several flowers for my yard. I quit the flower business for many years and lost the seed for her plants. Last year I saw a spider plant at the nursery and bought it. This year I have hundreds of spider plant seedlings in my yard and garden. Moonflower was the another seed she gave me that I loved. I tried seeds last year with no luck. This is the third try this year. I have at least 4 seedlings. If I can keep the going, I will have all the moonflowers I want to go with my spider flowers next year.

This is my plantings down by the mail box. They are doing really well. I have enough hose to reach them if I need to water them. Today, I just took a pail of water to the seedlings I transplanted from another bed yesterday.

The garden. My swing, under the shade in the evening. The old rack off to the left that I got at Tompy's sale, the new tiller with a black tub to keep the rain out. The first row on the left is sunflowers and marigolds. I got this idea from Betty. She said Granny Renfroe planted a row of sunflowers in her garden. I had seed saved from last year. I think this will be the highlight of the garden when they bloom. The dark row down the middle is the melons with black plastic under them. Tomatoes are on the right along with strawberries that you cannot see. I think we have about 20 strawberries plants to survive.

View of the front. The bushes on the middle are the knockout roses. Last summer they bloomed all summer. This summer, they bloomed all at once. I cut them off a couple of days ago. I hope they bloom back.

This is down by the light pole. Most of this I got from Patsy. There is a rose in there that has started up the pole. It has not bloomed yet, so I do not know what color it is.

The front steps with my many flowers. Most evenings we eat out here. Now the flies are coming, I will have to spray or I will not be able to eat outside. I cannot stand fighting the flies from the food.

My new flower beds at the front of the trailer. George is going to put in gravel here sometime this summer. I am glad to have more space to plant flowers. He got me dirt from down in the pasture below the pond for this. I will take more pictures when everything is in bloom.

The middle of the yard where the plum tree died. Patsy's bird house, one of the plants I moved from in front of the house, humming bird flower? The short things are morning glories.

The pink daisey down by the mail box. These are beautiful. They are supposed to come back next year, but I am saving seed to be on the save side.

Look off in the distance and you can see rain on denver road. It rained a trace here. I stood out in the rain and watered my flowers. I did not get very wet.

The bird bird bath right in front of the deck.

The bank down by the mail boxes on the yard side of the road. I am growing red clover and a few flowers here from the garden. This fall I am going to buy crimsom clover (the red stuff you see along the highway sometimes) and plant it here and in the bare spots where George has scraped the pasture. I wanted crimsom clover when I bought the red clover, but could not find it here. I found it online. The U of A says to plant it in September. I am buying 10 pounds but I am not sharing with Clayton. I gave him strawberry plants and he did not get them set out. I may buy more strawberry plants next year, but I am not sharing those with him.

Love the photos...no place like home.

You will have lots of red birds when the sunflowers get ready.
