The world we live in

Increasingly, I find that the my real world and the world as it is presented by the 'media', meaning TV personalities, bear no resemblances to each other.

Tonight is being tooted, and I think Tooted is a very appropriate word here, as Earth Hour, as explained by Google on their now black page:

On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone. On this day, cities around the world, including Copenhagen, Chicago, Melbourne, Dubai, and Tel Aviv, will hold events to acknowledge their commitment to energy conservation.

On NBC news tonight, a familiar news man, I do not exactly remember who he was but he appears on NBC news often, was explaining about this great event and ended his little story with some suggestions about how to entertain ourselves during this hour without lights. He said light some candles and have a romantic dinner, or read a book or a magazine. Now, how can we turn out the lights and read? I guess he could have meant read a book by candle light, but, I don't think that is what he meant. I think he just does not ever read books or is so removed from reality that he forgot that we would need a light to read a book at 8 to 9 pm. If he meant read a book by candle light, I hope he tries that. Reading a book with light from a flickering candle is not going to be that enjoyable. Why did he not say just sit in the dark and think, or, go to sleep. What better way to conserve energy than by re-energizing yourself with sleep with everything electric turned off?

I think I will observe this hour by turning off the TV.

I already did my 1 and more the other night my electricity went off for almost 2 hours. So if patsy wants to count one of those hours as hers she can. I will turn off as many as I can but my family hates sitting in the dark.

We conserved our hour the last time it snowed our electricity was off for 12 hours so we have saved our hours worth for 12 years. I will probably be dead in 12 years so it will be enough for the rest of my life.
