A bargain

I got this London Fog coat at the thrift store today for $2. It is in like new condition. It will make me a really good work coat. Will probably last till I retire. I think this is about a good a bargain as Helen's bike.

My job has reverted back to the old easy slow paced job I had until about 6 months ago when things started getting out of control. The complaint thing I handle has slowed from 15 to 20 a week to 5-10 a week. That means an hour or so a week vs 8 to 16 hours of work like it was last month. Then, the new report I have been doing for the KFC wings has been really simplified and takes about 15 minutes a day vs. 1.5 to 4 hours last week. Then, we are supposed to slow down on wing production. Anyway, I am back to trying to find things to occupy my time at work instead of trying to figure out which things to do and which to leave undone. And, I have been pretty vocal in the last 2 or 3 months about not having time to do all these things so that my boss has started giving some of the new work to the supervisors. I am thinking they are not getting these things done, but that is her problem.

Things are looking up...

George's pets

We saw our 5 deer family again tonight, strolling across Betty's land. I guess deer just naturally like Betty's places. This is 2 or 3 does and their little ones.
I had a surprise tonight. George cooked supper. Apple pie and pork chops. It was really good even if there was nothing to go with the chops. Well, he had eggs and toast, but I don't much care for eggs so I just had chops, pie and ice cream. Now, if he will just wash the dishes.

In the dry

I talked George into putting a tin roof over our little back porch. Here are the rafters.

And here it is roofed, in the rain. He is supposed to build a short (4 foot, 6 foot?) wall on the right here and we will move the grill off the front deck to back here. And he has to put in a porch light. But, it is nice to have this dry spot to carry in groceries in the rain.

Truth is stranger than fiction?

I can not decide what to use as a title for this post because there are just way too many possibilities to choose from

I subscribe to several mailing lists about genealogy but there is only one that actually has useful information. It is Roots L and if you like genealogy you are sure to find something interesting on the list. To subscribe go here
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/roots-l/
I can hear Helen's mouse clicking.

People on the list post their genealogy question and hope someone will post an answer. Listers are always asking for help finding genealogy records on line. For census records there is the big Ancestry.com and then there is the smaller Heritage Quest that is only available through library subscriptions. The Harrison Library used to have this service, but I am not sure if it does now or not. You just went to the Harrison Library, clicked on the Heritage Quest link and put in your library card number. Of course, if you did not have a Harrison Library card number you were out of luck. Heritage Quest is available like this through thousands of libraries.

Some one is always posting that anyone can get Heritage Quest free through their library. Of course, it is not offered at all libraries, but many of these people have been visiting with the dead so long, they do not keep up with the real real ways of the living world.

Well, it seems one Oklahoma library has also been commiserating with the dead far too long. They have a Heritage Quest link on their page with instructions to click on the link and use your library card example xyz123 to log in. The only thing is, they did not use xyz123, they used a real working library card number. Someone has posted this link to the Roots L list. So, if you want to look at records on Heritage Quest, you can go to the following link and follow the explicit instructions. Better hurry, because when they open Monday they will likely cancel that card number if they can figure out how to do that. Or, more likely, Roots L users will soon crash the server.

Frost on the pumpkin

If I had a pumpkin. I guess my flowers are gone for the season now.
George saw seven deer down in Dan's pasture, jut across the fence from us.
