A generous heart...

This is Laura, my niece.  You can't tell it here, but she is about 6 feet tall and wears a size 10 shoe.  She has a wonderfully big heart to match her shoe size.  I have a friend at work who wears size 10 shoe and is baddly in need of new shoes.  She fell at work because the soles on her old shoes had worn slick.  She was told she had to get new shoes to wear in order to return to work.  The new shoes she purchased made her feet hurt so much that within a few hours she was almost crying.  I asked Laura if she had a pair of shoes to give to my friend.  I now have two pairs of size 10 shoes for my friend.  And, not cheap shoes.  One pair are Hoka that cost $145. The other pair are nice shoes that could be worn as dress shoes, for when you would want a more dressy look.  It almost made me cry when I saw the shoes.  I am proud of my generous family.  I think Laura may have inherited this trait from her Aunt Helen.  Thank you, Laura

Greg is mowing

For the second time already and it is not even past the last frost date. Red buds and dogwoods are all bloomed out.  It is spring.

It started off just above freezing this morning, but it is really nice now.

Finally Friday

And I only had to work 4 hours today.  I went to harrison afterwards and went to a couple of thrift stores.  I found some pretty plates.

5 plates for $1.75.  I am going to use them for my everyday plates. Kids can use the ugly brown ones.

When I got home t looked at the back.

They are by the same company as my set of good China I got a few years ago.  These are the savannah patern. Really pretty.

Helen doing great

After her eye surgery.  I am exited for her.  She goes in tomorrow for followup. The other eye is schedlued for April 2.  I know she is going to be so pleased to be able to see so much better.  I think her eyes were actuall wrose then mine.  She said she saw black spots.  I have been almost blind in one eye all my life.  Now I can do anything without glasses except read.  She will probably be excited to be able to see to clean house.

Mr. MEADOR

Was a long time employee where our brother Clayton worked. Clayton was his boss, but Mr. Meadow was also our junior high school teacher. So, he was always Mr. Meadow to Clayton.  I just learned Mr. Meador is our 3rd cousin.  Clayton and Mr. Meador are both great grandsons of William Wesley Carpenter.  Who knew? Not us, until now.

8 plates, 6 small plates, 12 cups with saucers, a coffee server, and a casserole dish.  All for 20 bucks.

Made in Japan.  Theyvare probably 30 ir 40 years old. I doubt I will use the little coffee cups, but maybe.

Memories

Of times long ago is the focus of this little book. Helen checked it out at our little library.  It is short essays, mostly one page, written by one of our high school teachers. I have really enjoyed reading it and remembering Fayrene Farmer, the teacher.

The Rock Quarry

We have always known our  home was at the foot of  The Rock Quarry.  As a child, I thought that was just what we called are rocky hill.  No so.  The Rock Quarry is its official name.

1012 feet elevation.

Mama said they quarried rock from the hill to build the old bridge at Denver.

HeatcWave!

KY3 Says 19, but my thermometer on the back porch says 26. Of course, this am it said 2 degrees.  One more day before we get above freezing. I am still not going to work til Monday.

I ordered gas earlier in the week, but had not seen them come out. I got worried today and went to see how much I had left.  I guess they came the day I called, because the tank is full.

Today

Is looking to be a good day. Started out cold, but is bright and sunny now.  KY3 say it should get up to 40 today, and I have the day off again.  Took Friday and today off just cause I could. I have enjoyed my leisure. I am trying to live in the now, which is not my natural state.  Just for today, it can be.

Hannah got flowers, also. The look pretty in my tea pot.

So...

This is?  Bet you you are wrong.

How does my garden grow....

I planted lettuce 3 days ago.  See how it grows.

Winter!

The rest of the week.  Spring no more.

When I left for work this morning at 4:30, it was above freezing and overcast after raining during the night. By 6:30 sleet was falling.  Helen called me around 7 or so whining because I went to work. I finished up a few things and left about 7:30. I had no problem getting home, but there was over an inch of icy slush on our road and the streets in town.  I will not go in tomorrow.

And, at 6:23 the school texted late start. At 7:29 they texted no school.

Still above freezing here. The date is way off cause I can't get it to reset. Temperature works, and that us the important part.

Spring!

 Inside...

I planted spring greens. Helen's greens have inspired me to try this. They are $tree seeds, so we will see how it goes.

Weather was really nice yesterday. It was up to 70 at one point, but it is downhill from here for this week.

This Day in History

Fifty years ago today, the little guy in my lap was born.  Greg and I were staying with Mom and Day and George was in El Paso at Fort Bliss.  Daddy took me to the hospital around 10 that morning.  I thougt it would be a while before the baby was born, but It was February and Daddy was afraid of the weather, so he said we need to go on to the hospital. I guess I called George telling him I was going to the hospital, or maybe Daddy called him.

It was sometime in the afternoon, I think around 4 when Junior finally arrived.  I sent Daddy to call George, but he said they could not find him at the barracks.  I made him try to call a couple more times, but they still could not find him.  I was getting a bit upset about not being about to tell him we had another boy.  Remember, way back 50 years ago, you did not know until the baby arrived if you were getting a boy or girl.  Finally, late in the day, George came walking into the hospital where we were.  He had stated to Arkansas as soon as he got the first call, but did not call to inform anyone here.  Anyway, all was well and we had two fine boys.

Feburary

 Is looking better than January.

We may even hit 70 today.  And, I started the day with two of sister's cinnamon rolls. I am ready for the day.

New Shoes

I bought new hightop shoes to try to give my ancle support. I am pleased with them.  I have wore them every day since Wednesday.  My leg feels much better at the end of the day with these. They are men's waterproof hiking boots, Ozark Trail from Walmart. They are stiff and somewhat rigid so I was apprehensive about them being comfortable, but the really feel good on my feet. They give my ancle good support. I am pleased with my choice.
