I read 3 ebooks over the long weekend.
One was Hollywood Park by Mikel Jollett. It was different, interesting, and somewhat depressing. It does have a happy ever after ending. The author overcame a terrible childhood, but still...
Two was Maid by Stephanie Land. She was a single mom raising her child on sporadic house cleaning jobs. Her writing was good, but her story was depressing. The introduction says there is a happy ending. If not for that I could not have read much of this story. I kept wanting her to get a real job that paid real money. Her work was grueling, thankless, with pitifully poor rewards. And, the happy ending is in the eye of the beholder. As I often do, I searched for her current life condition. As her daughter told her, she can really pick 'em. Her story is interesting and she is a good writer.
Three was Hill Women by Cassie Chambers. This is a good read. It is about her family in Kentucky, but also her own life beyond that. She grew up in Berea, Kentucky. Her father is still a Professor at Berea College where Aunt Thelma got her nursing degree. This book was interesting and enlightening.
Today was back to work for me. Back to school for the kids.
Oh, and Helen made it to AZ just fine except for the thumbtack on the plane.
