Happy Valentines Day

To Patsy and the Chickens from George.  He is taking her a big round bale of hay for the chickens.

Emmy and her friend Angel are here.  I went to Harrison this morning to get Emmy's birthday present, but they wanted to stay here and play.  Grandpa got to watch them while I did my Saturday thing.  This was the first time we had seen her since her birthday.  She needed another controller for her Wii so that is what I got her.  The roads are mostly clear so I took the little red truck. George told  me to go around by town and not take the back roads by Coin, so I did.  On the way out.  Coming back, I did not see anything on the roads so I decided to come in the back way.  When I got to the back side of Meek Hill, it was snow covered.  I backed up, turned around in JR's driveway, went back to the highway and took the long way home.  Really the long way with the back tracking.  Do not tell George.  He would laugh at me.

I made chocolate cake with chocolate frosting for the girl.  Now I am making spaghetti for them.

I think she is like her Dad.  They asked if they could sleep outside in Bear's dog house tonight.  Or maybe that is related to George.  He got his dog to go in the dog house by getting in there himself first.

But, now his dog has gone off to the neighbors for 2 day.  I am hoping she does not come back.  He went after her yesterday but returned alone.  His dog really knows who is boss.

Look it up...

Wrong, see photo.

The Powell DNA almost matches for us in http://home.flash.net/~parino/powell-surname-dna-project.htm from the Powell DNA results are ENG 13 and UK 1.  These are both exact matches to each other and just 1 marker away from Clayton on marker # 439.  ENG 13 traces his line back to Thomas Powell.  His descendant line include Thomas Powell / Mary Place, John Powell / Margret Coghill, and Gov. Mark Sanford.  UK 1 is a line from present day UK and I do not recognize any of the names in that tree.

The line Betty is writing about that is 2 markers from us is ENG 1 and is from a line in present day Canada.  I do not recognize any of the names in this tree.

If I can make contact with this ENG 13 individual we might get him to test out to  37 markers and then we would know if we are from the same line or not.  As it stands, with only a 12 marker test, it is not possible to know.

Just wanted everyone to know Betty is wrong again.

DNA - Do Not Assume

Sister keeps telling me we have no match to brother's DNA in the Powell DNA project, and therefore, one of our male ancestors back through the generations was not a Powell.  I say, we may as well assume one of our male ancestors was not human, as we have zero (zilthch, nill, nada) exact 37 marker matches in the entire FTDNA database. I think she is adding 2 plus 2 and getting 5.

I have had trouble interpreting just what all the DNA data tells me.  Well, that is not exact, as in the matches.  The data really tells  me nothing as I do not know what to look for other than exact number matches.  Yesterday and today I have been reading up on the FTDNA site to try to better understand where we stand on this confusing issue of no matches.

FTDNA says this about 12 marker mis-matches with 11 of 12 marker match and the one marker is only 1 number off.

·         Distance: 1 - Possibly Related
You share the same surname (or a variant) with another male and you mismatch by only one 'point' on only one marker. For most closely related or same surnamed individuals, the mismatch markers are either DYS 439 or DYS 385 A, 385 B,389-1 and 389-2. To ensure that the match is authentic you should utilize additional markers.

On looking at the Powell DNA project here
We are VA16.  Right below us is an exact 12 marker match, but, when carried out to our 37 marker tests, we are off several places.
Below this match are 2 tests that are off our 12 marker by just 1 marker and 1 that is off on 2 markers.  These 2 tests that match 11 of 12 of Clayton's markers are 1 number off on the above mentioned DYS 439.  According to the above info that means in order to determine if we are related to these two individuals, we need to test more markers.  We have more marker results, but they do not.
I looked at who these two have for their line.  One is Nichols Powell that died in Virginia in 1670. I did not find much on this Nicholas.  The other mis-match is for Thomas Powell born about 159? in Powellton, England, died February 9, 1687, Isles of Wright, Virginia.  Checking World Connect for this Thomas Powell just guess who we find?  Go ahead guess.  I find one Thomas Powell in Virginia that I have always felt we might have a connection to, but cannot actually find a paper connection.  But, I am not going to tell.  Go look.
Oh, and the original Thomas Powell, died 1687, know who he married?  Priscilla Whitson.  Ever see the name Whitson in our records?  This Thomas and his son William are well documented in will and land records in Isles of Wright, Virginia.
I found this about Thomas on Rootsweb about this 1687 Thomas Powell, but I would take it with a grain of salt. I am not even sure that it is correct that he was a Captain.
Captain Thomas Powell sailed to St. Kitts and the Barbados. He was later a Sea Captain in the Sack and Rum trade between the West Indies and North America. He left his son William Thomas on a visit to Virginia.
Hurry, go look!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No workey, again

Too, cold, too much snow.  I think we got 8 to 10 inches.  It is -2 here this am.

I did make snow ice cream yesterday, but I put it the freezer and have not tried it yet.  You are supposed to put the bowl in a pan of snow and twist it until it freezes, but I twisted about 2 minutes and gave up.  I am not a very good twister.  Better sitter.  Maybe we will have snow ice cream for breakfast today.

For the Birds!

Winter Wonder

When the hell is this going to end.  We have about 8 inches and still snowing hard at noon.  My theo says 22 degrees.  I went to work, but left at 10.  I did not have any trouble on the way home, but my little truck was hitting high center in the snow.

No work tonight already, and I am sure they will call off tomorrow.

We are feeding the birds.  I think I will make snow ice cream.

Day's End

Beautiful sunset....

George got a new salt block for the deer today.  Maybe when they find it, we will have more animal pictures.

I looked back at my posts a year ago, and we had snow on February last year.  Looks like we might get some snow tonight, but not too much, or we hope.

More Damn Snow

Tomorrow night, or so they say.

I drove myself to work today, but I guess Wednesday it will be back to hitching a ride.

Feb 6, 2011 Walk to Old Stone Graveyard

I walked to the old Stone place this am. Saw this coyote just past Dan's, about halfway down the hill.  Left just before 9 am.

I put a battery in the clock so it has the correct time now.  It was about 34 to 36 degrees when I left.

The sun looked like it had the flue this morning.  It was overcast and gloomy all the way.
I got back about 10:30 and it was about 42 degrees.  We may get more falling stuff tonight.  I think I will make George take me to work tomorrow.  The hill is still slick at the top, or so he says.

Yesterday's pictures were truly point and shoot as my camera does not have a viewfinder.  When shooting in the sun, no viewfinder, means no view.  With the overcast today, I could see better.

Helen had trouble with the shutterfly site.  That might be because I typed her and Betty's email wrong when I entered them and they bounced.  I thought at first they bounced because they were too fat to fly, but then I saw I had typos in both email addys.  I hate typing email and web addresses.  I am always making little mistakes like transposing letters that are not obvious to me.  Anyway, I put up some picts of my walk this morning also.  There were not nearly as many picture perfect  opportunities today. I put a few descriptions on some of the pics today for Helen the lost, but I got tired of that and let it go.  Helen, I looked and the gate yesterday is the gate looking over towards JR Snow's, by that little pond by the road.  If you look close, you can see JR's donkeys standing by the pond.
