Alexander Cox

This is the grave marker for Alexander U. Cox in Newbern Cemetery, Lucas County, Iowa.  His wife Harriet Cumpston Sams, Cox, Scott, Knowles is also buried in the cemetery.  I was contacted by an individual last week concerning genealogy of this family saying they had this photo, but the only thing they sent was the following obituary for Harriet, the wife.

This was not really what I was wanting.  I asked how they descend from Alexander Cox, but did not get that information.  This morning, as the work  on windows progresses I was told to go away and play  on the computer.  They said they did not need a boss.   So, I decided to try and find the gravemarker photo.  I found the birth and death date on Ancestry, but the record did not even state the name of the cemetery.  Ancestry says cemetery 46 in Lucas Co. Iowa.  Anyway, after much searching, I found this person's tree on Ancestry here
The person who put up the tree is a descendant of Minnie Cox, daughter of Alexander and Harriet Cox. This tree has Minnie married to Archie Haynes, just as I do in my tree, but has her the mother of two children with the last name of Leech.  The data in his tree is kind of confusing, but I think it is probably accurate, though confusing, as the daughter of Minnie Cox that they descend from did not die until 1985, which likely means the information comes from the memory of the daughter.  They also had Minnie Cox's death certificate says her father was unknown Cox and mother Harriet Cumpson.

It was fun hunting out the information and I  am glad to have Alexander Cox's gravemarker photo and to know the cemetery where he is buried.

Today's News

More or less.  This is a 'new to me' outfit I bought at the junk store after I left Patsy's Thursday.  I spent $13 and to 2 nice capri sets, a pair of blue jean capris, 2 shirts for me; a dress, 2 tops and a pair of swim shoes for Hannah.  This outfit would have been much more than $20 new and it is just like new.  It even has a matching belt, so I think I got a good deal.  I have been wanting water shoes for the babies, but I hate to pay for shoes that are only worn in the water.  These were only 50 cents and will be fine for water wear.

Those two guys are here and they have decided they are going to put in more windows.  They are working on the back bedroom now.  They think they can get them all installed in a couple of days.  I will be glad if they even get the back bedroom finished.  It will be nice to have all new windows.  I love the ones in my room.  We have windows for all except the bathroom and the little one in the laundry room.  George says we will have to get those also so they will all look the same.  I agree.  I think I will get a regular window for our bathroom.  I is only about a foot wide and 30 inches tall now.  It is behind the stool so that space is useless anyway.  I am thing about 24 X 30 or maybe larger.  I will just have to put up a nice curtain or shade because it is in the bathroom.

As ever, pictures will follow...

In and Out news

New window from the out side.

New window from the in side.

George Out side raking the hay.  Kenneth and George have big plans today for this hay.  George raked it last night and K is supposed to be back to day with parts for the bailer.  Then it is supposed to all be bailed and hauled off by dark thirty.  They are two of a kind and big plans often has small results.  Stay tuned.

I think I may go to the library today for books and stay in with the window and cool air.  It is supposed to be 100 today.  The hay set a record.  It has been down almost two weeks and not seen  a drop of rain.

Yesterday's News

Yesterday was not a window day.  I went to the garden yesterday, early, and got produce to take to Patsy.  I had potatoes, squash and a few green beans.  It was my third picking of the beans and there was not much there.  So, I thought I would go pick Clayton's beans for Patsy.  Maybe he would not be home and would not even know. He was home, but I bet I could have picked them without him knowing because it only took two minutes to pick them.  He has 2 full rows of beautiful, full bean plants but as he told me, he had a ground hog living under his storage shed.  The hog was eating all his beans.  I mean for the two full rows we got about 2 handfuls of beans.

He set this trap for the hog.  When I went for a walk last night, I saw the trap was sprung.  I was afraid the varmet had gotten away, but this morning he said he got him.  I am glad.  I know next he would start on the corn and I want to steal that myself.

Today is window day.  It is almost complete.  Boys are here helping.  pictures to follow.

Holiday

I am off work until next Tuesday.  I plan on sleeping in and bossing George around.  I want him to put one of the new windows in our living room.  We will see if that happens.

It is hot and dry.  I have squash, cucumbers, green peppers, hot peppers, lots of onions, and lots of potatoes,  and one ripe tomato.

I am looking forward to not going to work for a few days.

Oh, yes, and I have a home phone back.  Call me, BR549.

Harvest Time

My Early Girls are beginning to turn.  I picked one today and have another one that should be ready by Wednesday.

I also have green beans that I cooked yesterday and a green pepper.  I have other green peppers I could pick, but I like them after they ripen and turn red.  I wish Clayton's corn was ready as he is not home again and it would be easy pickens.

I called the phone company.  They say they will have it fixed by Wednesday afternoon.
