Fifty Six

It is hard to believe it is February.  It was another gorgeous day.  Lots of pretty robins again and the blue birds were investigating the bird house already.

There were 10 deer in this bunch.

And six here, plus a mama and twins on our side of the road.

Emmy was here so the goats were happy.

Grandpa and Lane were building fence around the neighbor's yard so the renter can move his cows over here.  They will use electric fence along the lane, but George wanted a better fence around the yard.  Lane got to dig a couple of post holes until he broke the handles on the post hole diggers.  Then Grandpa borrowed the neighbors auger and tractor to dig the rest.  Lane did not understand why it was necessary to work for 2 hours on 2 post hole and then Grandpa did all the rest in 45 minutes.  Grandpa said the signs were not right until the handle broke.

I enjoyed the day because they all left me alone.

Fifty Five

This was in the AR paper yesterday.  I thought it was really funny so searched for it on the net.  I guess it was another lost and found.  I searched at the AR Democrat newspaper site and did not get anything close, but found it with a google search.  Then had to use print screen to get it because it is copyrighted and would not let me download it.

Today as cooler than the last few days.  I only worked 4 hours this morning.  I went to Harrison to look for a new computer but did not find one like I wanted.  I came home an ordered one online from Wally world.  I decided to get the bigger laptop like I wanted while I had the cash.  I need one with a 10 key to use for a lot of my genealogy stuff.  I really do not like using a computer with no 10 key.  It says it will take over a week to get here, but it will probably not be that long.  It has a built in webcam.  I bet the grandkids will love that.

George has been working setting up a RV down at the Marr neighbors for their son Steve.  It is just him so he wanted something economical to live in down there.  Lane is supposed to be down tomorrow to help, but I think they are going to work on the electrical fence up here for the man that rented our land.

I guess the goats are doing alright.  I have not checked on them up close in a day or two.  Me and Sammy are not dedicated animal caregivers.

Fifty Four

Lost and Found
Once again I lost something and found some things while looking for the lost.  Actually, I am the lost.  I was thinking about trying to update the Powell genealogy I made years ago.  The exact year was also lost to me, until I found the book and it said September 2005.  I really never did find my printed copy although I know it is here somewhere.  I wanted the computer version and could not find it on the old computer.  I finally found a CD  with all the files from all those books I made in 2005.  And, on another CD labeled 2005, I found the above photo.  I know I have the actual photo somewhere, but this is the only scanned file I have of it now.  The dog is the original Bear.  The boys and George really loved this dog.  When we had him, George worked on Newberry's farm, and Bear went to work with him everyday.  The boys went hunting with Bear more than once and returned with a groundhog or other animal the dog had caught for them.  No gun involved, just their dog.  This picture would have been taken sometime in the 80's.

This is the second Bear his first fall with us.  It must have been September or October 1996 as neither Lane or Bear is yet a year old in this picture.  You can see, Lane is having a great time and Bear is trying to get away.  Sometimes Lane rode the dog as a horse.

Fifty Three

It was a beautiful day.  Seventy degrees and lots of sunshine.  We had robins everywhere this afternoon.

In the middle here is a little dogwood tree.  I am going to get George to dig it up with his backhoe and transplant it in the yard.  It may not live, but we are going to give it a try.  Even if it does not survive, there will still be a tree here, because it is an offshoot of a larger bush about a foot away.

Two more days then WEEKEND!!

Fifty Two

A beautiful day.  Around 60 degrees and lots of sunshine.  The goats were loving it, but they wanted corn.  Sunday, Hannah fed them and then Emmy fed them twice.

Hannah really liked Patsy's little banty eggs.  I told her they were tiny eggs.  She ate 3 Saturday and 3 more on Sunday.

Fifty One

Patsy's dog story made me think of Ol' Bear.  I am defiantly not a dog lover, or in most cases even a dog liker.  I am not much of a pet liker either.  I am  fonder of  farm animals and wildlife much more than confined pets.  Through the years there has probably been at least 20 plus dogs that called this place home.  None were my dogs, not even Bear, even though I brought Bear to the place.  All the dogs were George's dogs, even though most were dropped off here by his boys.  Bear came to live here because Grandma thought Lane needed a dog.  In the summer of 1996, when Lane was less than a year old, I found Bear for let in a Walmart parking lot and brought him home for Lane.  The dog was about 4 months  old.  Lane had a great time playing chase with Bear.  Bear not so much.  Bear never cared much for children.  As he got older, he would go off and hide when kids came around.  But, Bear was a great yard dog.  Nothing but nothing came into his territory while he was on guard.

Sometime around the time he was about 10 years old, he was injured in his front shoulder.  He was in pain  a lot of the time after that and in the winter, when it got really cold he would howl in the middle of the night from the pain.  He was an outside dog, but we tried to get him to sleep in a dog house or in the shop where we could build him a fire in the wood stove, but he just would not sleep inside even a dog house.  The winter of 2006 was really cold and really hard on him, but 2007 proved to be milder and he did not suffer quite so much.  We talked about having him put to sleep, but he would not ride in the truck so we did not think we could get him to the Vet. Oh, he was great friends with us and we could pet him all we wanted, but we could not make him do anything he did not want to do.  There was just no way we could put him to sleep ourselves.   We were really dreading the winter of 2008, but one morning in August  we found him dead in the yard.  It  looked like he was walking along and fell over dead.  George buried him on the place.  George loves all dogs, but I am pretty sure this is the first dog he ever buried.

When?

OK, Helen, when are you going home.  I thought you said March, Patsy says May.  If Patsy is right, it will be the first time.

Five O

The kids were here.  Goats are really going to like grandgirl.  She feeds them every day she is here.  I only feed them 2 or 3 times a week.

Today is a beautiful day.  The girl picked bunches of yellow flowers this weekend.  Spring has to be here.  I am glad.  Two days of winter was enough for me.
