WI FI

This morning when I connected to the net with my laptop, my wireless device downloaded an update for the program on the computer and a firmware update for the device itself. Now, tonight when I went to connect with the laptop, it connected via WI FI instead of the way it was. I have the internet device now plugged in to the charger in a regular outlet. I took the laptop to the back of the house and could still use the net from back there. For the laptop at least, I have now 'cut the wires, baby...'

Also, I uploaded all the pictures I had taken of the grave markers at the Fairgrove (Grim) cemetery to my CCHS genealogy website in less than 15 minutes. With dialup, it would take 3 or 4 hours to get them uploaded.

I copied my documents and pictures to the portable drive this morning in about 2 hours. I am very pleased with the drive. Now, I have to figure out how to backup my email from the old computer to the portable drive. I have done that at work with outlook, so I know it is possible.

And, while I was looking at what I copied to the drive, I found some pictures on the computer of Emmy before she was a year old. I did not know I still had any pictures on the computer from earlier than 2003 when I got my first digital camera.

All in all it has been a good day.

I hope Greta is doing alright. Betty, you need to post an update.

Play Day Today

As opposed to work days. I was awake at 4 am this morning even though I did not have to go to work, or even to get out of bed. I did get up before 5 anyway. Today is supposed to be fairly nice with temps in the 40's. I am glad. I am really tired of the extreme cold. Google says it is 32 right now. By Tuesday it is supposed to be really cold again, so I need to enjoy today and tomorrow.

I have hooked up my backup drive to my big computer and I am copying the files. It has been running a little less than and hour and has almost an hour to go. That is not bad for 75 MG of data. I did not use Windows backup. I just copied the files over. That means I will have to get a system for separating pictures I have already backed up from the others.

My Version internet device updated when I logged on this morning. I may try to do the wireless connect thing again. But, it works like this so I may not bother.

Patsy had better watch out. I have heard on the news that the FBI is visiting political bloggers that say politicians are not perfect. The next thing we know, they will be visiting Chicken Ridge.

Welcome home Greta

We are so glad she is home and doing better.

It has been really cold. George and Clayton saw 8 deer down by the pond yesterday.

Tomorrow it is supposed to break the freezing mark for the first time since last week.

This is my new backup portable hard drive. It is a 500GB Western Digital. I will hoop it up tomorrow night and let it run. Betty says it will take a long time to back up all my files. I have 74GB of files in My Documents folder with 385 folders and 54 thousand files. Then I have another set of files in a backup folder from my last computer. George will have to play cards on the laptop Saturday.

Beginning

I am not a farmer, but I was raised by a farmer. To a farmer, the year begins in the spring, not on January 1. George and I have had this discussion many times. He has done much more actual farming than I will ever do and he thinks the year begins on January 1 and ends on December 31 just like Helen. For me, Spring is the beginning, be it a year, a process, or a life.

Hannah is in the Spring of her life. Winter is where I stand now, in my life and my year. Soon, Spring will be here and a new year will begin. My life will still be wintering over.

Have you ever heard of anything new wintering up?

Hope springs eternal. Winter wears thermal.

It is January in Arkansas

It is really cold and gloomy. George fed the birds.

When you open the front door, most of them take to the trees, but come back after a few minutes, if you can outlast the cold.

George put weather stripping around the front door and got one of those draft thingys as-advertised-on TV for under the door. I can really tell the difference from yesterday.

Another day in January almost done, another day closer to spring and a fresh start.

Picture upload fixed. I know it was the new blogger editor because when I got faster internet I changed to the new editor. I went into settings and choose Use Old Editor. Now, pictures on blog and pictures on computer look the same. The only advantage of the new editor for pictures is that if you move a picture with this editor, it make the picture smaller so that you cannot click on the picture and get the larger image. I think moving the picture probably breaks the blogger link.

I did not like the new editor anyway. It said it made things easier to place on the blog such as text exactly where you wanted it. I found it to be just the opposite of that. The new editor chose how things were and that was it. There was much less control of how things looked. Anyway, if the pictures are sideways, and you cannot get them right side up, that trumps all other things on the blog post. I like pictures.

It is really, really cold and going to get colder so they say. We may even get some stuff falling from the sky on our heads. I am making a pot of beans with ham and cornbread so we will have good food for fuel. Have to go to work tomorrow, unless I don't want to, then I don't have to. You know all those people who told you someone has to do it. They lied.

Cold, Cold, Cold

Robert is mad at me because I took his car away.  They would not share, so I just put it up.  After about 15 minutes, when he was in the room by himself, I gave him the car back.  He played with it a few minutes, then took it to the bedroom and gave it to Hannah.  I am a diplomat.  It is all Patsy's fault anyway because she gave him the car.
.
I bought new coveralls and snow boots for Robert and new coat and boots for Hannah, but Blogger picture thingy does not want to let me upload them.  First they were sideways and still would not go into the post.  Now, they are orientated correctly but will not paste.  I do not like blogger without pictures.
