This is from the 1932 Sunny Lane school census.
And so is this. I have these census sheets for 1932 through 1948, although 1942 and 1945 are missing. Each year from 1932 through 1938, R. M. Powell filled out the census for his family and signed at the bottom. This is 1932 and for Aunt Fleta he wrote 1917 and then wrote a 6 over the 7. You can tell he decided on 1916 because of the age 15 figures out to 1916. In 1933 he has 1916 age 16, 1934 1917 with a 6 written over the 7, age 17. And in 1934 he has Willis as 1916 with a 5 written over the 6. In 1935 he has Fleta as 1916 age 18 and Truman is gone from the census as he 'aged out.' In 1936 he has Fleta 1917 age 18. In 1937 he has Fleta 1916 age 20 and Willis is not listed as he 'aged out.' In 1938 Fleta is not listed. In 1939 through 1948 R. M. Powell does not have any children on the Sunny Lane census. I think from 1939 on, the children that went to school went to Green Forest. Since the family lived in the Sunny Lane school district, I think the children under age 20 were supposed to be listed on that district's census.
I think it is clear that Grandpa was confused about the year of Fleta's birth. The other children's dates are the same each year.

This really has me confused. I can't believe grandpa was confused about Fleta's age. He was so through about numbers and facts. There has to be a reason that we are missing. I notice her birth day is 12/27.born in 1916 but it was almost 1917, could be the reason but it is so unlike him. I wish I had know about this before he died. I would have liked to tell him. YOU MADE A MISTAKE!
It is late and I am tired so help me out...1930 census...taken in March...Fletas birthday is like oct///so if born in 16 she would not be 15 till after birthday right/// AM i confusedwell is that even right ..30=16 is 14 i don't knoe...i wi;; have to look at it in the morning..when at least some of my brain is working... you know if we keep getting her younger and younger maybe itat would make winnie jo younger...i'll bet shewould go for that..
Well, I think she was born in 1916 as that is what Grandma said.
Men are not as good as women at remembering birth dates. They are better at other numbers.
