Pies and Day Tripping

I started out this am around 7 and was over the hill past the Church by 8:30.

I helped a very little cleaning the Church and then took off down the road home, only to see the truck, both wheelers, and the tractor going through the gate to the pasture towards our little cemetery.  Oh boy, they are going to get the big downed tree off the graves.  No, about 10 minutes later they are all coming back.  To say, Terry, the neighbor has already removed the tree.  My lucky day.

I made 4 pumpkin pies and the kids ate most of one.  They went bowling and George and I drove down to the buffalo to see the Elk.  Again, our lucky day and we saw a herd and a big bull.  All in all a very good day with very little work.

I am now at 932 miles, well into Virginia.  By next Sunday, I plan on being less than 300 miles from Charles and Sarah in Fredericksburg.

Saturday

Work day at our little Church.  Tomorrow is family day.  I have a ham and I will make pumpkin pies and rolls.  I was thinking of taking other bothersome things, but decided on these because if we have leftovers, my family will eat all this.

I am going to walk over for the work day,  I plan o starting around 7, but have not had my coffee.  I will walk on past the church towards Powell's.  I do not want to arrive early.  Unlike Helen, I hate cleaning and the Church always looks clean to me.  To me, cleaning the Church is busy work.

Kids  Dad is home and he is supposed to take them bowling today.  I think they stayed up late with him last night.

I am going to drink coffee, eat my oats and yogurt and be off, hoofing it.  I have gone 924 miles.  I am in Wytheville Virginia, only 155 miles from Charles Powell's farm along the South Side of the Dan.

And, I did not  have frost yesterday.  The Gatlins live on the banks of Dry Creek.

Last Week's News, tonight

I had a big week.  I finally got the cemetery cut, but I bought a machine to do it with.  It does not really show in the pictures, but the north side of it was overgrown with weeds over my head.  It was June the last time I cut it, and it has rained and rained so everything just kept on keeping on.

I bought a push type weed machine.  It really cuts the weeds and even small sprouts.

It looks so much better, except for the tree that got hit by lighting and fell across
part of it.  I don't think it broke any actual grave markers, but it broke up some of the rocks on the rock fence.  I was glad it missed Jacob's stone.  George will have to cut it up to get it out, but that can wait till cooler weather.

During the week on my walks, I picked up the trash between here and the red barn.  I only got two walmart bags of trash, which is pretty good.  Yesterday, George and I went over and burned the bag of trash that someone lost right in front of the red barn last July.  I kept thinking someone that lived over there would take care of it, but not.

Saturday, I walked over past Peden's and down to the slab across Dry Creek at the back of Billy Joe's place, 8 miles round trip.  It was dry both ways.

I started a little after 6 and was past Peden's by sunup.

Sunday, I walked to the Coin bridge, 6 miles round trip. Dry Creek had standing water there, but was not flowing. I am now at 910 miles.

On my walk up Callen's Branch a few weeks ago, I found a glass bread pan.  I carried it to the slab, but did not want to carry it all the way home.  Sunday, we drove over and got it.  Robert was not impressed.

The kids and I watched the first part of the ellipse last night.  It was really red.  Robert was interested, but Hannah not so much.  I took some pics, but have not downloaded them just yet.

That is all I know and then some.

I walk...

Eight hundred and eighty four miles this year.  Last week I did not walk 3 days in a row, but I am trying to get back on track.  On weekends, I start before sunup and try to go 6 miles Saturday and Sunday.  During the week, I try for 4 miles each day.  This week I am going to do better..  I have logged 80 miles this month, with only 3 more months to go to the 1250 miles to Fredericksburrg.

Early in the morning, I see lots of beautiful days begin.

You know, people are strange.  Has anyone noticed that I have not been posting so much lately?  Well, the reason is rather odd.  I like my new little tablet / computer for playing on the web, although it does not work so well for real work.  I does not even work as well for dead people tracking, because it is harder to save what I find.  But, most of my posts were made on this tablet in the evening from my bedroom while the kids take over the living room. Last month, the tablet decided it would not connect to our network from the bedroom.  To use it on the web, I have to take it to the living room to connect. After it connects, I can take it anywhere in the house and use it, but can only connect from the living room.  That takes all of 1 or 2 minutes, but it has made me less likely to use the tablet. Odd.

This morning, I am awake early.  If it was the weekend, I would start my walk, but today I go to work.

Sold Goats

We have been busy downsizing our goat herd.  On Friday, September 12, we sold 6 grown nannies and the 2 little billies that belong to Little Sister.  All together they brought $570.  Big Red brought the most at $100.  Next was the white goat with brown spotted head from Little Sister at $75.  Little Sister brought $67.50, and her billies brought the same each.  The little grey nannie from Bertha brought $72.50, and the two littlest nannies brought $60 each.  We thought about taking them to the goat sale at Harrison, but ended up taking them to Marble.

We gave Little Grey and her Grey Billy to Kelly.

We sold Baby Grey to JT and Linda for $50 and gave them her billy.

Now we have 10 goats total, 7 grown nannies, 2 young nanny kids, and one 3 month old billy.  I need to take a picture of the ones we have left but for now, here is a picture of the herd before downsizing.
