April 39

This is my (George's) garden this evening after our little rain. George bought a little 2 cycle tiller and has tilled out the weeds. I hilled up the potatoes and they look really nice now. I have 2 rows of potatoes because I planted twice thinking the first set was not going to come up. They are all up now and looking good. I have radishes and cornbread for lunch.



This is the bird house that I stole from Ridgedale MO after me and son nailed it back together and put on a new tin roof last Sunday. We nailed it to the plumb tree that got damaged in the ice storm. The tree is going to come back because it has sprouts coming out on the other side. Here a new renter is checking out the new space. I think he is going to move in.




And here is our wren that has babies in this little ceramic house I got for a dollar at a junk place last year. There are babies in there because mama or papa keeps taking in food.





This is my new herb garden. I have wanted to plant something around these bird feeders for a couple of years now. I got around George by telling him it is a herb garden. I have planted several herbs, but really, I just wanted to plant here. I want morning glories to climb up the poles. We will see if they come up or not. I do not have much luck with morning glories.

And, today I went to see Dr. Mark W. Powell about my knee. He says I have likely torn a cartilage. I go back next week and then he is going to tell me he want to do surgery. I am so tired of not being about to get around I am going to try this. I hope it helps. I go back Tuesday.

Things to do at Grandma's house

Play on king on the deck.



Play lock brother off the deck, and then let him in. Great fun.




Play pull brother in the wagon even though he is almost twice as big as me.




Plat sit in the wagon and think.



Play help sister climb the guy wire.



Play in the grass with Buster, but if you are smaller than Buster, Grandma has to be close by to rescue you.



Play tackle Buster in the grass, if you are a big boy.




Play look like an angel.




Play dig in the dirt, and when Grandma turns her head, play eat the dirt.




Play I found a worm.



Play pose for pictures for Grandma.



Cause it is great fun.





Play climb on Grandpa's tractor.

And drive Grandpa's tractor. The boy loves the tractor as much as Grandpa does.

Play help Grandpa stack wood.

Play sit in the buck of the tractor and kick at the dog.

And carry more wood.



Have lunch on the deck.

Carry moore wood. Or, if you are like brother, throw the saw dust all over everyone.

Cause it is lots more fun than stacking wood.

Play see and yell at each other through the bumper of Ole Blue

Lots and lots of fun.

Baby girl

This is the pretty baby girl in the Easter outfit Grandma got her sitting in the her new chair. Mama had gotten her a little purple purse and it had this makeup in it. She used it all up, putting it all over herself and her new outfit. I had to wash it twice to get it all out. She loved her new chair. There was a pink one for her and a blue one for brother. As soon as she saw them, she knew the pink one was hers. I am going to go get them Saturday morning and let them stay the night.

I could not stand messing with the plants in the house any longer so today I set the tomatoes and the sweet peppers out in the garden. If they die they just die. I am thinking next year I will just buy plants. I was really tired of the whole thing about 2 weeks ago.

I have 5 or 6 sweet pepper plants left. They look like good plants. Do you want them, Patsy? I could bring them to Janet.

And

The thinks in this photo have meaning. The bowl is one I found in a box of junk I bought at Aunt Loveta's estate sale. It had been used as a planter of some kind because it was dirty on the inside, or at least that is what I imagined. I have never found a use for it, I do not particularly like it and it has no real purpose yet I keep it around, moving it from one unlikely place to another where it sits just taking up space.

The little ladder is one I stole from an unsuspecting acquaintance. Someone left it in Greg's RV many years ago. I saw it and liked the looks of it so I took it as my own. It is really too short and unsteady to be of any use as a ladder. I have used it as a place to display house plants, but now it just sits on the deck taking up space.

And the pitchfork? Well, I am thinking it is a bad omen. Grandson was here last Saturday with a friend. They went for a walk. The walked across the creek to Aunt Betty's old house and stole her pitchfork. Now, I know she has no use for this or any other earthly tool and probably would smile knowing my grandson thought of it as a prize, but still... I am pretty sure Betty and Chuck were the last people to live in this house, so it must have been theirs. Anyway, guess what grandson wanted with it? He wanted to sell it and make money. I gave him $5 for what he stole from Aunt Betty. I think I have no use for the pitchfork and it will probably sit in the corner taking up space for years to come.

I do not know what this means, except that maybe grandson has already started on a life of crime like his grandmother by his grandmother.

Easter

Emmy, Lane and two friends came down and hunted eggs. Emmy was excited to make a find. Lane not so much...

Powell DNA

It has been about a year now since we did the test. There has been no change in matches within the Powell surname group for us. We have NO exact matches in the Powell surname tested at Family Tree DNA. There are 5 DNA samples in the Powell group that have a generic distance of 1 on the 12 marker test. That means one or two of the 12 markers are different.

Now, sister Betty is once again voicing doubt that Charles was really a Powell because of no matches within the Powell group. We may as well use these results to doubt that we are human. There are 441 exact 12 marker matches within all the DNA tested at Family Tree, but there are exactly 2 exact 25 marker matches in the 152,614 DNA samples tested at FT, and of course, their names are not Powell (Marshall and Gregory). Of the 65,008 samples tested for 37 marker DNA, FT has conducted so far, ZERO, ZILCH, NADA are exact matches to our Powell DNA.

DNA has made monkeys of our Powell ancestors.
