Fish & Chicken

This is a black chicken that came visiting at our house a few weeks ago and has made herself at home. Here she is eating Bear's dog food. She came down from brothers house, but I think she came to his house from up on Yocum creek sometime last year.



I walked down by the pond to this evening where we put the fish last week. I did not see any fish and I think that is a good sign, I think the only way I would see them is if they died and floated to the top. I heard 3 large bull frogs and sever little ones. I did not see the deer or the turkeys that sometimes we see in the evening just below the pond, but there were deer tracks in the draw just before you get to the pond bank.

Change IE home page with Vista??

Patsy was having a problem with the Google home page. I could not exactly tell if IE would not let her go to the Google page, or if it was not letting her reset her home page to Google. I know sometimes a program hijacks IE and tries to prevent you from changing your home page from their site, but here is Microsoft Vista instructions on how to change your home page with Vista.

To go to Google from anywhere on the net, type www.google.com in the address bar. If you continue to have trouble find the google page, it might be a good idea to add it to your favorites and then you can also save a shortcut to your desktop. It was not clear to me if Patsy could not find the Google page or if IE was not letting the Google page load or whatever. I am not calling her because she said she was up all night messing with IE and I am hoping she is asleep now on this rainy cool August day.

Change your Internet Explorer home page
Applies to all editions of Windows Vista. Which edition of Windows Vista am I using?
Your home page is displayed when you first start Internet Explorer, or when you click the Home button .


To set the current webpage as the home page
1.
Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Internet Explorer.
2.
Navigate to the webpage you would like to set as the home page.
3.
Click the arrow to the right of the Home button , and then click Add or Change home page.
4.
In the Add or Change Home Page dialog box, do one of the following:
•
To make the current webpage your only home page, click Use this webpage as your only home page.
•
To start a home page tab set or to add the current webpage to your set of home page tabs, click Add this webpage to your home page tabs.
•
To replace your existing home page or home page tab set with the webpages you currently have open, click Use the current tab set as your home page. This option will only be available if you have more than one tab open in Internet Explorer.
5.
Click Yes to save your changes.

To reset the home page to the default
1.
Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Internet Explorer.
2.
Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
3.
Click the General tab.
4.
Click Use default to replace your current home page with the one that was used when you first installed Internet Explorer.
5.
Click OK to save your changes.
NoteIf you do not want any home page to be opened when Internet Explorer starts, click Use Blank in step 4 above. You might want to have a blank home page if you frequently work offline and are not connected to the Internet when you open Internet Explorer.

All these actions should force IE to go to the Blogspot server and update the page.

An August Rain

We have rain again. Two inches since Friday night according to my DYI rain gage. This is an pleasant change for August. We are supposed to have highs in the mid 80's all week. I have to clean house. Company's coming. George's sisters Conda and Wanda are going to be here the second week in September. I hate cleaning house so this will be a big change, but not a pleasant one.

George is at it again

Yesterday, while it was wet, trying to burn a brush pile that did not seem to want to burn.



So, he put an old tire on it and got it started. You are not supposed to burn tires, but, people who live way out in the boonies sometimes do these things, and things like mine gravel from the creek.



It still did not please him the way it was burning, so bring on more tires.



Finally, it is burning but he wants to use the tractor to push the brush in to the fire. I did not think this was a good idea. He thought I was being silly.



Eventually, he was satisfied and left it alone. I was nearly all gone tonight, and he restarted it and now has burned up everything except a few sticks. I told him he was going to burn up his tractor and he said it was insured.

Then, I told Patsy that George was saying I did something wrong. Patsy took my side. She said she knew I had not done anything wrong because I never actually do anything. I am glad she is on my side.

NOT!!! or at least not to a farmer. I was wanting to do something about the pond weeds and scum, so Monday we spent $55 for 6 grass carp, 3 in each pond. I don't know if that will help, but I wanted to try it.

Two of the sisters have been talking about their shopping trips with their grandkids to by school clothes. I have bought my grandchildren school clothes on occasion, but it is not my favorite activity. Lane always wants something that I hate, and Emmy wants everything. I just let their parents worry about school clothes and supplies. And, I buy most of my clothes at the thrift store or yard sales. My favorite pair of jeans cost 50 cents and my favorite pair of capris for work cost 25 cents. I need to buy new tee shirts because I have bleach spots on most of my good ones from failing to take them off when I get home from work, but so far all I have bought is one boys tee shirt on clearance for $2.50. I hate to spend money on clothes because they are not very important to me. If my grandkids did not have good clothes to wear to school, I would buy them good clothes, but as long as their parents will buy them plenty of school clothes, I will save my money for important things like grass eating fish.




Oh, yes, and we got an inch and a half of rain. You can see it in my rain gage. I like having a rain gage, but the last two I bought got broken. I found this one under the sink in my kitchen. I don't think it will break, but if it does, I know where I can find a replacement for the same amount of money. Husband and son made fun of my rain gage, but until today, I can guarantee it was absolutely accurate because until today it always said we got no rain. That was completely accurate. Today it may not be absolutely accurate, but it was worth the price and I have a pretty good idea of how much it rained. If husband or son want to buy a better rain gage or buy me new clothes at the mall I will let them. I am saving my money to buy a minnow trap so I can trap minnows in the creek to put in the ponds. Then, next spring, I am going to buy blue gill and bass. That will cost more than $55. No money for clothes. Saving it all for the important things in life...
