No news

Is good news.  I have been spending my spare time searching for dead relatives on the computer and trying to avoid Sister Helen's place cause she has a new project that is all work and no fun.  The floor looks better every day thanks to her hard work, but just watching her tires me out.

Our little Robert is 16 today, and not do little. I really can't believe that. He is a blessing.

I have fresh tomatoes and green peppers for lunch. It is delicious.

I am off work til Wednesday. I am not doing much.

Easy peasy potato soup recipe

Not really a recipe. I cook like my Mama.  Start with frozen shredded hash browns and white gravy mix.

Pour a scant cup of water and a couple cups of milk in a pan.  Heat till warm and add  a quarter cup, more or less, of your favorite white gravy mix.  Brown a half chopped onion in some bacon grease, or maybe butter.  Add about a fourth cup water and heat a couple minutes. Add this to your soup base.  Add hands full of hash brown potatoes till it looks like potato soup.  Heat till it bubbles. Cook about 5 minutes or so. If it is too thick, add more milk. If it is not thick enough, add more gravy mix. If it doesn't look like enough potatoes add more, and cook it longer. If you want more flavor, use the whole onion.  I sometimes add some chopped cooked bacon or chopped ham. Some add cheese, but I do not want cheese in my potato soup. Salt and pepper to taste.

About 15 to 20 minutes, start to finish. Enjoy.

Today in History...

 For the sisters, today is the day Patsy's daughter Janet was born 56 years ago.  At that time, Sister was living on the outskirts of Sacramento.  One summer, the year escapes me, but it was likely '65, Brother Clayton took a Greyhound out there for the summer. This was a working vacation as he took a job in the canning factory where Dillard worked just for the summer and rode the hound home again when school started.

This was likely taken shortly after the family returned to Arkansas, maybe '66 or '67.
