Dirt Road Funerals

If you read Patsy’s blog http://pattypenny.blogspot.com/ , you know that yesterday she accidentally went to a funeral. Ya see, she was driving by the funeral home, saw a funeral was in progress, and thinking it was Virgil Morris’ funeral, she decided to stop and sign the guest book. Well, the surprise was on Patsy cause it was not Virgil Morris’ funeral. Someone asked on her blog if she signed the guest book anyway. Here in dirt road county, everybody usually knows everybody, so I thought it was likely the funeral Patsy dropped in on was for someone we all know.

I went over to Nelson Funeral Service website and had a look. It said

10:00 A.M. Satuday, August 19, 2006 Nelson's Green Forest Chapel

She was preceded in death by one son, Ron Disheroon, her parents, Garland and Dora Trantham; five brothers, Clinton, Bill, Ray, Onus and infant brother Wayne, four sisters, Alice, Marie, Myrtle, Irene.

___________________________________

Laveta Conner was one of Patsy’s long time friends. I think they worked together at Ocoma in Berryville in the 60’s and maybe even carpooled to work. Laveta was also our sister-in-law’s Aunt, as Richard’s wife is a daughter of Clinton Trantham. So, if you want to go to a funeral here, just go. We are all related by blood or marriage, if not through our ancestors then through our descendants. If, in the multitude of attendees, Laveta’s children saw Patsy, they recognized a life long friend of the family.

I do what I do, and I don't do what I don't

My sisters are all blogging about what they are doing. Patsy is going to the store, Betty is going to school, and Helen is IRONING! So, what am I doing? NOTHING!

I need to go to the store. The grandkids are coming tomorrow and they will want things to eat that I only buy when they are going to be here. I usually go to the store after work on Thursday or Friday, but I did not.

I did go to work this moring and actually had to work a little, but not much. I spent over an hour working on the newspaper puzzles, not the corsswords that I never know the answer to, but the 3 square math one and the cryptaquote. But, I was not really into that so I quit the puzzles and just sat and 'rested' my eyes. Then I spent another hour or two working on an excel function to try to get Clayton's lab girls to lookup the grower names so I would not have to spend so much time checking to see if they got them right and then sending corrections via email to the spr lab. I got it to work for me, but I am not sure they can use it. They have a printed list but will not check it to see if the grower name and number match so they probably won't the lookup function either. It is all Claytons fault anyway. He tells them to just write whatever the fieldman puts on the sample, but then if it is not right someone has to correct it. The boss thinks better me than her. I think better her than me, but can't get that bird to fly. Patsy, you call Clayton and tell him to make the girls look up the numbers.

And I am NOT going to iron. I guess I probably hate housework more than about anyone I have ever known, and since I have gotten old and cranky, mostly I just don't do what I don't want to do. I really hate vaccuming, but with the little boy coming by and looking for things on the floor to eat, I have to do someting. So, sometimes I sweep the living room carpet cause I hate to drag out the vaccum and then drag it back, not to mention dragging it all around the room. Don't tell Jackie, but I kept the boy while she went to the store this evening and he had a big time chasing flies around the kitchen. He never did catch one though. Maybe Clayton can give him lessons on catching flies.

To make a long story longer, What am I doing? NOTHING!!! and I like it that way.

We all have fleas!!!

Sister says: Lay down with dogs...get up with fleas.

We have followed our leaders into the valley of evil. We have only ourselves to blame.

If we are turely a country of the people, for the people, by the people, we all have fleas.

2 HOT!!

I guess no one but sisters have noticed, but my blog has blogged down and almost out. But, it is not my fault. It is just so HOT. I hate hot weather. I hate being out in the sun. I want shade and cool breezes. When it gets hot like this I just do not want to do anything. My home, workplace and car are all air conditioned to 72 degrees or so, but still, the HOT takes all the want to out of me. You know, Oh, I think I want to go here or go there. Or, I think I want to make this or make that. Or, I think I want to do this or do that. When it is so hot I don't want to go, I don't want to make, I don't want to do. And, since it is not actually hot where I am most of the time (in my home, my office or my car), this makes no sense. Just the same, that is my story and I am sticking to it. It is too blankity blank hot to blog!!!

Thirty Four years ago today, it rained cats and dogs in Carroll County, Arkansas. But, in a little Church in Osage, George and I were married. There are not many pictures of the day. The camera we used did not have a flash. There were so many windows in the Church that it was just like taking pictures outside in the sunshine, expept that the sun did not shine that day. It rained, and rained and rained. Our only pictures were taken by Grandma Gaddy with her little Kodak. When we were ready to leave, we ran to the car through pouring down rain. The doors were left unlocked so we could jump in and leave. No one locked their car doors around here back then. But, on that day, my BIL Mike See locked our car doors. We got soaked trying to get in the car.

Today, I am thankful for George Aday. We took a little vacation time, a 4 day weekend as we often do for this occasion. We were going to take the RV to the lake, but the RV is in OK. So, George wanted to take his boat out on the lake instead. I have been trying to find a way to tell him all week that I just did not want to go out in 100 degree weather and sit in the hot sun all day. I thought he might be angry but I am an ageing red head and I just hate hot and sun. Finally, I said something about not wanting to do this. That is fine with him. If Junior does not work tomorrow they may go together, or George may go alone, but I do not have to go sit in the sun all day and he does not have to sit at home with me and read a book.
