Spring!

 Inside...

I planted spring greens. Helen's greens have inspired me to try this. They are $tree seeds, so we will see how it goes.

Weather was really nice yesterday. It was up to 70 at one point, but it is downhill from here for this week.

This Day in History

Fifty years ago today, the little guy in my lap was born.  Greg and I were staying with Mom and Day and George was in El Paso at Fort Bliss.  Daddy took me to the hospital around 10 that morning.  I thougt it would be a while before the baby was born, but It was February and Daddy was afraid of the weather, so he said we need to go on to the hospital. I guess I called George telling him I was going to the hospital, or maybe Daddy called him.

It was sometime in the afternoon, I think around 4 when Junior finally arrived.  I sent Daddy to call George, but he said they could not find him at the barracks.  I made him try to call a couple more times, but they still could not find him.  I was getting a bit upset about not being about to tell him we had another boy.  Remember, way back 50 years ago, you did not know until the baby arrived if you were getting a boy or girl.  Finally, late in the day, George came walking into the hospital where we were.  He had stated to Arkansas as soon as he got the first call, but did not call to inform anyone here.  Anyway, all was well and we had two fine boys.

New Shoes

I bought new hightop shoes to try to give my ancle support. I am pleased with them.  I have wore them every day since Wednesday.  My leg feels much better at the end of the day with these. They are men's waterproof hiking boots, Ozark Trail from Walmart. They are stiff and somewhat rigid so I was apprehensive about them being comfortable, but the really feel good on my feet. They give my ancle good support. I am pleased with my choice.

We hit sixty degrees today

Warmer weather has improved my mood. In my senior years I really do not do well with very cold or very hot weather.  I guess I need to move somewhere besides the Ozarks.  Our weather hits all the highs and lows.

With this little lamp I have kept these two succulents alive this winter.  I do not have good luck with house plants in the winter.  We usually get tired of each other before the sunshine returns.

Reading

Since it is so cold, I have been reading books on the iPad.

Claiming is rhe life story of Laura Bell, a real farm hand cowgirl in South Dakota. It is really interesting. Parts of this book are really sad, but Laura is a good storyteller.

This is the life story of the Pandl family that owned a restaurant in Michigan. It is funny, well written and mostly tells the life story of the much loved father and mother. I really enjoyed this book.

I have not finished this book. Elizabeth's parents were from Mexico.  She was born in Arizona. I like this book so far. I think thins work out for Elizabeth, but maybe not for the rest of her family.  We will see.

I would recommend all these books.

Cold and colder

Thermometer on back porch says 17, weather Chanel says 14. Supposed to get colder tonight and tomorrow. I am going to stay inside. We dud not get any moisture falling on us yesterday at all so roads will be fine fir work tomorrow.

New Wall Heater...

Son replaced my wall heater.  The one I had malfunctioned Thursday. This one is 30,000 BTU. I think the one I had was 20,000. We are going to need it.

He wants to know what I am going to break next. In the last month it has been the gas line, the gas tank, the cook stove, the hot water heater, and now the wall heater. He says he is going out of town next week, so I will be out of luck.

Brutally Cold

On its way. But temperature is right at freezing now. We will survive.

Greg has made an access door for the water heater.  He needs to trim out the top an Robert has to paint it.  He did a really good job with it. It looks really nice.

Leasons in sieze the day

 Or, maybe, best laid plans.

Last January I made a plan to walk 10,000 steps each day. Those plans were derailed September 27 by a hole in the ground.

Still, on average, I made it.
Know that today is the only day you know you have. I am going to try this year to sieze that day each day, one day at a time. However, I have not been very successful at that in recent days, or years. Still, I am going to try.
