Hannah is making the rolls for our Christmas dinner.  Her first attempt at bread making. It is going to be very good.

Thanksgiving 2019

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving at Grandma's, but Grandma was so busy cooking she did not take any pictures.  All the kids and grandkids were here plus Sister Helen, Brother Gilbert, and Gilbert's granddaughter Alisha.  Helen did the deserts and green beans; I did all the rest, turkey, dressing, rolls, and potatoes.  Food was good and we all had a great time.  JR and Tonya were a little late getting here because JR wanted to be sure he did not arrive too early, but we saved them a few bites.

The highlight of the day was when Gilbert found foreign material in Helen's pumpkin pie.  She took it from him, examining it closely before declaring it was her toenail.  Thankfully, I ate only the wonderful carrot cake, avoiding toenail poisoning.  Helen played the sister-in-law role and cleaned up the dishes before going home.

And, Lane did not pay attention during introductions.  He was relieved to learn that Alisha was Gilbert's granddaughter and not his 18 year old girlfriend.

Emmy took Hannah off with her to go shopping last evening and I guess today, since she is not home this morning.

Here are some pictures I took on my walks earlier in the week.

Monday, I walked up across the hill, down the other side, and down the red clay hill towards Callens Branch.  This farm road across the hill is, I believe, an old wagon road from the 1800's.  This is the view coming off the hill into Hampton's field.  You can see Hampton's barn in the distance.

I drove the truck up to Sister's, hoping the dogs would not follow me, but no such  luck.  Both dogs got distracted over by the red barn, digging after treasure.  I wonder if they would find their way home, as neither was anywhere in sight when I topped the hill on my way back.

This is a view of Randy's field behind the red barn, the land that was homesteaded by Joel McNiel about 1860.

.

Another view of the same land.

This is another branch of the same farm road I took back across the hill.  It starts in the ditch just this side of the read barn. It intersects at the top of the hill with the one I took down on my way over.

It is swampy on top of the hill making for good ground for pretty green moss.

By the time I got back to the fence line between us and David, both dogs were back with me.

This is the old cemetery on Dan's place.  I walked down here on Sunday.

I jumped two of these down close to the cemetery.

This is the Morris house as seen from the cemetery.  Jacob Shank, died in 1884 and is buried in this cemetery.  At his death, he owned most of the land seen in the distance here.

There were a half dozen or so ducks on Dan's pond right by the cemetery.  This pond sits right on the old fence line between Daddy's land and Dan's.

I have been off work since last Friday and do not go back until Wednesday.  I have been feeding the living and searching for the dead.

Dirty pigs

I took this pic of the neighbor's pigs a couple of days ago meaning to post it.  They are really growing.  She loves pigs. I think they stink.  I loved my goats. She said 'they stink'.

This will probably be a dirty post. My phone took a bsth in the toilet yesterday.  I put it in a bag of oats last night as I did not have rice. Dirty pug woman said Google recommends oats.  It seem to be working almost normal now.  Sister Betty says buy rice today and bag it each night for a few days.

My first thought as I saw what had happened was I am glad it is an $80 phone.

Kid food

Last night at Church, we had Halloween treats.  Sister Joyce  made these really cute, but simple, treats.  They looked really cute and easy to make.

And Sister Marie always brings these cute orange pumpkins.

I took ice cream bars.  There were so many  treats, I had 2  boxes of left overs. I will just save them and take them back next week when it is my turn to take food.

It is really cold and Hannah has to go to a football game tonight because of her sports thing.  I have in mind that I will go also, but it is really cold, so I don't know.  We will see.  Don't tell her, but I hate the school sports things.  I know someone should go when it is here, but it is hard for me to make myself suffer so greatly.

Fleta Aday shared 1 photo with you

Google thinks they have improved on my photo.

Sunday Morn

I went for a short walk just after sunrise. It was very foggy.

Now, I Think I will go to Church. I have missed the last 2 Sundays for no good reason.

Brother was thinking about deer hunting today.  I did not see him here. He may have decided on a more promising place. I did see deer tracks in the mud by Helen's mailbox and just past the little pond that isn't.

Grit

Hannah running the 2 mile cross country.  Not fun on the first freezing day of the season.

She is easy to spot in her neon yellow shoes.

Not sure if the others in red or Green Forest or not.  There were other red and white teams.

She is about the center here, by the white pipe.

This is the 7th grad cross country team before the season started.  By the first race, only 3 girls were still on the team.  Cross country is hard, not fun.  She has finished every race somewhere in about the middle of the times, but towards the back of the pack.  The back is way more crowed then the front.  I think it is good just to finish at all, especially now that it is cold.

But, she just made the basketball team.  We are really proud of her. She loves basketball.  Hopefully, there will be more fun in this sport.

Changing things around

I have been wanting to change things in my bedroom for some time now.  Saturday, I got a new day bed and rearranged everything.  This gives me more room and does not look so cramped.  I like it.

Monday morning road block...

Or Ozark hillbillies do not trust the government to take care of things.

This morning there was a BIG tree down across the road at Helen's pig pen.  Cars and trucks could go around by driving down through her old barn lot, but the school bus could not get around the tree.  i told the 'boys' the county would come down and take care of it since the road was blocked.  But they would have none of that.  Greg worked about 3 hours cutting it up enough so the bus could get through.  Now it is 1:30 and the county road crew is down here cleaning up the rest.  Here are pictures.

Classmates is always offering temptations to try to empty my pockets.  So far, I have resisted.  I stole this photo from today's temptation message.  I think I used to know some of these people.

Hurricane Iwhatever has blown us in some cooler weather.  Today has been wonderfully cool and beautiful.  I walked to Dan's earlier, and now I think I may just go again.

And, Betty, when we talk about dead people tomorrow, I have a mission for you.

Walk & Talk

This morning when I went for my walk I was all dressed up. It was really even better than this cause I had on grey and white stripped pants.  I walked to the stone cemetery and back talking the entire time without getting cut off.  So, it really was just my old phone all the time.

I can see what I type better on this one also.

Today was a beautiful day. Rejoice!

New phone

I finally got a new phone yesterday.  Instead of getting a Samsung like I usually do, I just gotta a cheap phone. I had been putting it off because I dreaded setting it up.  As it turns it was as easy as everyone said it would be.

So far, I am pleased with my choice.  It works much better than the old one.

I don't think the camera is as good, but that is not too important.

The other phone actually worked for most things except for making calls.  And, this one is much faster. So far so good.

Well, it did not go as planne

But with Sister's help, all the goats have left the building.  As it turned out, I had the wrong date for the sale, but we did not know that until Greg got over there with the first load Saturday morning.  I felt bad about all the work and then just going to have to do it over another day.

I told Sister I was just going to try to sell them outright and get someone to come get them.  She posted online around noon or so, and before 3 pm she had them all sold.  The buy came, loaded them all up, paid cash and we did not have to do anything except get them in the pen before he got  here.

Helen thought I would miss them, but I don't think so.  Since I could not take care of them by myself, they were sometimes just another worry.  I hate asking for help.  l

She said the buyer said they were the prettiest goats  he had ever owned.  George would have been proud.  Sometimes, I do fell a little melancholy that George did not live to enjoy Earnhardt and his offspring.

Anyway, all is well now.

This is the whole herd, except for Earnhardt, in July. And Daisy, the pup.

This is some of the herd just before we rounded them up for sale.  They are pretty.  We sold 25, including the 2 red babies born a couple of weeks ago.  I am pleased with it all, and thankful to Sister for her help.  I am not much of a salesman.

Sir Authur, about 6 months old, November 2014

Sold to us as subject to register.

The End of something

I wanted to say the end of an Era, but that seemed a bit much.

Today, we are dispersing the goat herd.  We sold Earnhart on August 10 to Helen's friend Marvin.  She traded 3 of this years nannies for her pigs.  I wanted to donate them to the cause, but Helen insisted she pay for the goats, even though on of the pigs is for us.  It will take 2 loads in Greg's little trailer to get them all to sale, but hopefully, all will go as planned and goats will be gone.

I looked back to see when we got them.  It was 02-04-2012, so 7 and a half years ago.  I have enjoyed being goat lady, but now I am more than ready for it to be over.
