Blink

 As in blink and the camera is on the blink again. I walked up and got the camera cards this morning.  The one had no pics on it. It is having battery troubles again.

This is one horn. There were 4 or 5 not so good pics of him at this time, but no others of any antlered bucks.

I thought the deer would approach from the trail, but they usually come up over the hill about here.  And this is the way I came back down.  The cameras are just west of the cave at the top of the rock quarry. I went up the trail by Helen's house but had to walk along the side in the leaves because the trail was slick, so I just came back over the hill by the cave.

There was some pics of 4 or 5 deer together, but the other camera is the one positioned to capture large groups.

Walking in the Cold

 Is not bad if you dress right.

Around noon I walked up on top of the hill and put some corn out for the critters.

This is the road back down.  Son's red truck is in front of Helen's place.  I had to walk in the leaves on the way up and down because the path was slick.

On the road and the level path along the top it was not slick at all.

I went to the gate, 1 mile round trip.

Neighbor takes good care of his livestock. Lots of hay.

And lots of babies.

At two, with not much to do, I walked to the gate again.  I am going to work tomorrow.

Home bound

At least for me.  I am sure my Chevy truck would have gotten  me to work today, but I really do not want to drive on this.  I may go tomorrow.  Nothing has fallen since a little after dark last night.  It is still really cold, 24 degrees.

This was January 27, 2009. 

Donna's broccoli soup recipe made me hungry so I made some at noon when I got home yesterday.  No recipe as usual, but I used bacon for added flavor and frozen broccoli because that is all I had.  Also, used the cheese I had, chicken stock, and a cup of real whipping cream left over from my desert craze a couple of weeks ago.

I have been trying to eat more heathy, eliminate sugar, more vegetables, less calories.  Bacon and cream are out of place on that list, but they made the soup really good.  I did not bother with the carrots, but I am add some canned carrots when I eat left overs for lunch today.

I am going to get dressed and walk down the road, maybe to Dan's and maybe just to Helen's. We will see how it goes.

Cold as Ice

We have an inch or two of icy slush. I think the falling stuff is past us, but it is really cold.

No school today or tomorrow for kids. I went to work, but came home at 11. Roads were covered but my truck had no problems. I have already told Kathy I am staying home tomorrow.

I am ready for spring. Did I already say that?

Sunday's Critter Cam

 

3 Mile Day

 I walked 3 miles before breakfast today.  I took a real camera, but I left so early there was not much opportunity for good pictures.  I started out at 6 and got back home at 7:09, so that is 23 minutes per mile. The first 1.5 miles I did in 30 minutes, but the path back has 2 long uphill climbs so back was not as speedy as forth.

I was back this side of Dan's by sunup.

Here at Helen's we jumped about a half dozen deer, but they were already in the trees by the time the camera was ready.  My big camera is always ready in an instant.  It focuses really fast, but it is so heavy, I hate to carry it on a long woak.

Tomorrow, Betty and Laura are supposed to come up. We plan on have lunch at Cozy Cafe next to my work.  Maybe one of the sisters will pay. I will call that a free lunch.
